User Review: Zamberlan 1020 Nuvolao NW

Summary

Very high quality and versatile, though expensive boot. Will easily last 10+ years but requires frequent maintenance and waterproofing.

Well made and beautiful boot (color is baseball-glove brown). Comfortable across a wide temperature range. Sole is not especially aggressive, but has high quality grippy, not waxy, rubber.

Well-proportioned interior with roomy toe box, but stiff tongue needs good break-in to eliminate heel lift. Smooth leather is difficult to waterproof, though old-fashioned Kiwi neutral shoe polish seems to work. Stock insole is too sloppy and should be replaced with custom insert.

Recommended for packs up to 40#. Relatively heavy boots, but very stable and supportive so they still feel good after a long day. Would take a strap-on crampon, though not really intended for high-angle mountaineering.  For everything else — easy mountaineering, multi-day pack trips, 3/4-season day hikes, forestry, weekend home improvement projects, winter travel — this is a very useful boot.  

(I have had these 1 year, worn them year round, and they look new.  Very satisfied and would buy them again.)
