Naked Granola Granola Cookies - Seattle

rated 4 of 5 stars Not necessarily an “energy bar” but rather a wholesome granola bar, or cookie as they call it, that provides a great taste and generous size. Taste: Taste is where this bar, or rather cookie, shines. The “Seattle” cookie has almonds, dark chocolate, and cranberries, which are a great combo. The cranberries really stand out and compliment the dark chocolate nicely. The almonds are less prominent.  I’m curious to try other flavors from this company: Maine: Blueberry, cranberry, almond,… Full review

Mountain House Chili Mac with Beef

rated 5 of 5 stars A great meal, just let it re-hydrate a little longer than directions advise in anything other than warm conditions. Excellent meal. The spice adds a little feeling of warmth in cool conditions. Taste is excellent. I find increasing re-hydration time by 5-15 minutes (especially in colder weather) improves the foods consistency. Not a true two-person meal. I think you need an entree per person, especially if you've been carrying a pack all day. If backpacking as a couple, an entree like this with… Full review

Mountain House Lasagna with Meat Sauce Pro-Pak

rated 5 of 5 stars The perfect meal to store for an unforeseen extra day on the trail. I always carry one breakfast and one entree for each day on the trail. The breakfast is usually a Granola and Milk. The entree always a pouch (Chili Mac, Beef Stroganoff, etc). If I have a long day of hiking  I might have a vegetable pasta entree for breakfast. Lunch is usually snacks on the move (jerky, candy, cereal bars, Clif bars, etc). I like to carry a Pro-Pak as insurance in case I have to spend an extra night on the trail. Full review

Vitalyte Electrolyte Replacement Drink Mix

rated 5 of 5 stars Grape has become the house favorite over the years. Vitalyte is nether an energy drink or a source of calories, it is an electrolyte replacement and best "utliliized" to prevent and recover from dehydration. We have been drinking Vitalyte for over twenty (20) years (we still call it Gookinaid!) there is always a two litre container in our fridge and a second container in the summer. I sold it in my bicycle shoppe for twenty years. We have tried all the flavors, Orange, Fruit Punch, Lemon and *No… Full review

Trader Joe's Pour-Over Coffee Brewer

rated 1 of 5 stars Hard to imagine a use for this one. It's expensive, makes weak "coffee" that tastes like plastic and then there's the disposal problem. I'd tried one of these brew-in-bag systems once before (from a different source) and it too was terrible. So now, a couple of years later, I thought I'd try it again. Retrospectively, I can't think of why I thought this was a good idea. You pour hot water into the bag and you can make it weak or strong. I chose strong. I waited the recommended time plus a minute… Full review

rated 4 of 5 stars IN PROGRESS - NOT FINAL Ambronite; the soylent based super-meal that can run a person to the next meal or through that next workout and is drunken from a bottle. The Drink is composed of all organic and whole foods resourced and developed into Ambronite in Finland. The mix is considered all vegan and nutritious, and on the companies website it claims to be a meal substitute and supplement that can be made by the busiest silicon valley for weeks at a time, to the occasional trail snack for the weekend… Full review

Starbucks VIA Ready Brew

rated 5 of 5 stars Next best thing to a coffee press. I love my Jetboil Coffee Press, but I'm not always on trips where I have enough water to wash it out after brewing. I've used Folgers coffee bags for 20 years and tried the cheaper instant coffees, but Starbucks kills it with this stuff. It's just great—quicker and neater than fresh ground. Packs small and light and very little trash. Full review

Mountain House Chicken and White Bean Chili

rated 5 of 5 stars What a suprise! My girlfriend picked this out when shopping for our backpacking trip, but when I was pulling out meals and I asked what she wanted she took my lasagna! So I got stuck with this. It didn't seam appetizing to me at all, but I was so wrong! I loved it! Great green chili sauce! I've never even heard of chili made with green sauce. I love their chili mac, but this was a whole different world. The beans were good, there was tons of chicken, and I was full and happy. I buy this one every… Full review

AlpineAire Foods Chicken Gumbo

rated 4 of 5 stars My favorite from Alpine Aire. Was great! For a freeze dried backpacking meal I was more than satisfied. I was actually moaning and groaning while eating this yummy food. It was a little soupy, but then gumbo is a soup. It fed two of us plenty. I just wish it had more chicken. I'm buying a can of Mountain House chicken to supplement meals and this one will stay on the menu, but will be enhanced with more chicken. I know I said no added seasonings needed, but I like it hot so I poured in the hot sauce. Full review
