Backpacker's Pantry Granola with Bananas & Milk

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Good backpacking breakfast. Easy to prepare and pretty nutritious. More tasty than most freeze dry packaged foods. Price, like all freeze dry, is fairly hefty. Background: When I started camping, backpacking, and horse packing with my family as a child, there was no such thing as freeze-dry. Your only choice in dried food was jerky for meat, powdered eggs, KLIM (milk spelled backwards – still exists) for powdered milk, and a range of dried fruits and vegetables (raisins, apples, apricots, tomato… Full review

Libby's Seasoned Beef Crumbles

rated 3.5 of 5 stars My son and I actually like this as a complimentary ingredient. Despite the appearance, my son and I like this stuff. We always mix it in with another ingredient. We will either mix in with our dehydrated re-fried beans and rice for making burritos, or we will mix it with bag of instant potatoes for a "hamburger casserole" recipe. We have never eaten this straight out of the bag. Does anyone eat crumbled hamburger as a main dish at home? All in all, my son has used this on several trips, and is currently… Full review

Mountain House Beef Stroganoff with Noodles

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Excellent flavor and texture from a freeze dried meal. The price point is a bit heavy considering I might be able to take a spur trail to the nearest restaurant and buy a fully cooked meal from a wait staff for the same price. Taste: Tastes really good. The sauce is creamy and smooth. The meat reconstitutes well enough. The noodles are soft but not lumpy. Some might find it a bit heavy on sodium, but I like my food salty. Prep: Just add boiling water and wait about 5 to 7 min. Easy enough. Creates… Full review

Pat's Backcountry Beverages Brew Concentrate

rated 4 of 5 stars Perfect companions to their highly acclaimed Carbonator Bottle, these flavors give the user the ability to "brew" fresh adult beverages. I'm not a huge proponent of imbibing on the trail, but on a hot summer night after a day long hike, there's nothing quite as satisfying as a cool, frothy ale by the fire pit to set the night off right.  I'll review the two "adult beverages" here, with hopes that someone more experienced with the soda flavors might chime in! The mixing and carbonation process takes… Full review

Clif Organic Energy Food

rated 4 of 5 stars I was provided with four flavors of CLIF organic energy food: pizza margherita, banana mango with coconut, banana beet with ginger, and sweet potato with sea salt. All four were reasonably tasty, with some specific preferences outlined below. I felt the fruit-based ones were better for on-the-go energy, whereas the others were more filling and felt more like a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack than high-carb energy. The packaging makes these easy to carry, eat, and re-seal. BASIC DETAILS Each packet… Full review

Clif Berry Pomegranate Chia Bar

rated 4 of 5 stars Clif bars in general are great for people on the go, who can't always plan ahead for every meal. They are great for kids' snacks between meals as well. I recommend this product. I'm not a typical reviewer, but I purchase large quantities of bars. I like Pomegranate Chia and the Carrot Cake bars as well. Blueberry Crisp is good. Chocolate Chip is good. Yes, there is a similarity to the bars' flavors, but that is the case with all "lines" of food products.  I work in an office. Sometimes lunch plans… Full review

Libby's Seasoned Beef Crumbles

rated 4 of 5 stars Unlike the reviewer who gave this product a single-star, I found this product to be good and consistent with my expectations. It is essentially 6oz of cooked ground beef sealed in a vaccuum-package for long shelf life with no refrigeration. It is great for camping, backpacking, safety-rations, and/or quick-prep meat for spaghetti or tacos. I recommend this product however recommend purchase at a grocery outlet as it is a better value when purchased below the retail US$2 per unit price. This product… Full review

AlpineAire Foods Wild Quinoa Pilaf With Hemp Seeds

rated 2.5 of 5 stars A vegetarian pilaf freeze dried backpacking meal which may or may not be suited to your palate. Freeze dried food — some are good, others downright terrible. The AlpineAire Wild Quinoa Pilaf - with Hemp Seeds  falls somewhere in the middle on that scale, primarily due to differences in people's palates. AlpineAire Freeze Dried Food Packets Opening the package, I immediately smelled a nice blend of spices, but also detected a strong hint of something that reminded me of hay, most likely… Full review

AlpineAire Foods Rice Burrito Bowl Flavored with Beef

rated 4 of 5 stars A very tasty and satisfying freeze dried meal. Freeze dried food — some are good, others downright terrible. The AlpineAire Rice Burrito Bowl Flavored with Beef easily falls into the very good category. AlpineAire Freeze Dried Food Packets Opening the package, spicy aroma fills the air. The Mexican-style spices — red peppers, taco seasoning, and jalapeños — are very poignant. The ingredients — a mix of rice, beans, corn, onions, beef chunks, red and green peppers, and spices — are… Full review
