Skout Organic Organic Cherry + Vanilla Trailbar

rated 4 of 5 stars A completely organic, great tasting, energy providing trail bar. Difficult to find in retail stores in some areas (i.e. East Coast), but seems to be expanding distribution. On a trip this past summer to the Pacific Northwest, I was reintroduced to a previous friend—the Skout bar. I had tried a few of these bars a couple years ago when I lived in the PNW, but since moving to the East Coast, I’ve had trouble finding them in retail stores. The Portland, Oregon-based Skout Organics company seems… Full review

Steve's Paleogoods Dried Wild Blueberries

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A great addition in terms of variety and taste to the trail food/carbs category. Steve's dried blueberries taste great and have a consistency similar to raisins, as opposed to freeze dried blueberries I have tried. These reportedly pack 24 grams of carbs into once ounce. I have been trying to steer away from energy bars lately. They can be dry, hard, odd-tasting, and they feel pretty artificial. I would much prefer a bag of dried fruit and nuts, maybe some chocolate chunks or m&ms mixed in. Full review

Libby's Seasoned Beef Crumbles

rated 4 of 5 stars Trail Tacos beat chicken and mashed potatoes any day. Yes, it does look pretty gross coming out of the package... the spicy version looks and tastes better. Add it to red beans and rice and enjoy an outstanding meal. Opens up way more recipe options. So tired of chicken and mashed potatoes and salmon and couscous. Been taking more dried beef or salami but dried beef gets expensive fast. Now granted you're not going to mistake this even for a McDonald's Burger, but after a few days on the trail,… Full review

Alacer Emergen-C

rated 5 of 5 stars Who could have guessed that this well known Vitamin C source and cold remedy would make a super electrolyte and restorative drink for hikers? I've taken this on and off for decades as a pick-me-up to ward off getting sick when run down. It is sold as an immune system builder. After running out of our standard electrolyte mix for bicycling that we had been using up for hiking, I tried this by chance. And I quickly found that it worked even better for me than just electrolytes for energy recovery… Full review

Zipfizz

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The stuff works! Sustained energy quickly from healthy ingredients. Easy to carry and mix. Tastes great, in choice of flavors, in multiflavor packs, that seem to be expanding. I gave this 5-star product 4.5 stars, because I would prefer to have less throw away plastic in the packaging. Also I want potential users to help ensure that they use any stimulant wisely. If too much taken or taken too late, spontaneous circle walking and/or a sleepless night(s) might occur. What a single dose looks like. … Full review

Backpacker's Pantry Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with Beef

The New Primal Spicy 100% Grass-Fed Beef Jerky

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great flavor and texture from a responsible company. I really like outdoor foods which are responsibly sourced, artificial ingredient free, and have short ingredient lists. I think that food is getting too far from its roots and I believe that, while most health problems are induced by sedentary lives, overly processed foods also play a small factor in the overall decline in American fitness.  Because of this and my inherent frugality I have made my own jerky ever since I was old enough to carry… Full review
