Exstream/MyBottle Virustat Kit

rated 5 of 5 stars Great filter. Only imparts a slight iodine taste. I've used this setup for a few years to filter water on hikes up to a week long. I have filtered water from disgusting cow ponds and have never gotten sick. The flow rate is on the slow side, but it's a small price to pay for a great filtration system. This kit gives me enough confidence to drink water from pretty much any source if necessary. I find that the slow flow rate actually makes me drink more often and keep hydrated as opposed to chugging… Full review

rated 5 of 5 stars On our second filter replacement, but this Katadyn (PUR) Hiker pump is still going strong after more than 20 years and dozens of trips. This filter just works! No fuss, it just keeps ticking. After dozens of multi-day backpacking trips in the mountains of central Idaho, it finally started to slow down a bit to the point that the input hose would crimp at the point of entry into the filter body. So, we replaced the filter and lubed the seals and plunger, and it felt like new and just kept on chugging. Full review

BeFree 0.6L

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This is a nice simple water filter option that has great flow, is simple to clean, and is very light at only two ounces. The only negative is that the cheap flip top cap selected for use with the BeFree is the same as what you find on a typical disposable water bottle. I've been using a Sawyer Mini water filter for over a year and it initially had adequate flow. It has gradually decreased (and I have been back flushing) to where I decided I wanted something that weighed about the same, but had much… Full review

Hiker PRO

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Easy to use water filter for backpacking. Have owned and used since 2013. Love this filter. Very easy to use, especially when utilizing quick-connects for water bladders. Take very little time to set up and filter. There are several options available (pens, gravity bags, etc), but this has always worked well for me. Very user friendly. My one recommendation and caution is removing and effectively cleaning/drying the filter inside the unit after use. I didn't do this once and got a moldy filter. Full review

Hiker PRO

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Just bought this as a primary water filtration system. Used it last weekend as we were camping/hiking Jones Mtn in the Shenandoah. The spring was located right by the cabin we rented. Now I wanted this for the easy pump (47 pumps = 1 liter) and that was indeed easy—NO STRUGGLE or EFFORT needed to accomplish this. And if memory serves it was about 47 pumps. Lightweight for its size. Separate stowage bag and also one of the ziplock "sandwich" type bag for the dirty (OR CLEAN, depending on what you… Full review
