Hiker PRO

rated 4.5 of 5 stars A great filter for hiking in the backcountry. This stores small and is fairly lightweight. Would definitely recommend this for anyone hiking where water must be treated. I bought this filtration system more than four seasons ago and have not regretted it. It packs light and is easy to use. The fresh water connection fits most Nalgene openings and hydration packs. When it doesn't it is easy to hold the tube along with the container you are pumping water into.   The one downside is that the pump… Full review

Carbon Cartridge

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This is a fairly inexpensive, simple, upgrade/add-on for filters such as the Hiker, Hiker PRO, and even the older PUR models. I recommend this product for anyone using those models, especially if you are getting water from a source that is used by recreational watercraft, or the source water has a bad taste or odor. Trailspace has two (2) group headings for this product, under different names. This product is currently called the "Katadyn Bottle Adapter with Activated Carbon" on Katadyn's website. Full review

rated 5 of 5 stars The Katadyn is long lasting, and easy to use. It can be cleaned in the field and removes microorganisms larger than .2 microns. It is great for long stays in the outdoors where it would be difficult to carry all the water you would need for the trip. Combined with a Steripen, it will provide drinkable water from almost any source. I've used the Katadyn to filter water in outdoor situations where it was not practical to carry all the water needed for the trip.  The filter comes with its own carry… Full review

Base Camp

rated 1.5 of 5 stars We used the filter on a BWCA trip and even with prefiltering the water with 4 bandanas and using 3 screen prefilters from older filter cartridges the unit clogged in just 20L of use. The only thing that saved us from boiling water was the reason I bought the system; the filter works in my Hiker pump. We did find that the filter worked fine in the pump. My plan is to put a Sawyer in-line filter on the bag.   I like the large volume and ease of use.  I just want something I can back flush and repair. … Full review

Hiker PRO

rated 4 of 5 stars Used on several 50 mile+ multi-day kayak float trips pumping ~8 L/day of water (maybe 80 - 90 L total to date). Light and easy to carry and quick setup. Can tell the filter is starting to clog as water flow was not continuous with last day's pump. But still a good unit for the cost and function. Using this system after a much larger system failed on day two of a four-day, 65-mile float. This system has been on two trips to date and has worked well. Easy to set up and pump. It does take two people… Full review
