Long inseam briefs have made a huge difference for me in stopping inner leg chaffing, in rough terrain requiring leg lifting and plunging over obstacles. Half (or less) the cost of equivalent Under Armour and ExOfficio options, and highly durable, these have become my standard "go-to" gear.

Pros

  • Mid-weight fabric designed for aerobic sports
  • Very comfortable with excellent supportive design
  • Good fabric stretchability, excellent flexibilty and strong waste band
  • Good breathability, with increased aeration in critical frontal area
  • Proving highly durable!

Ever have a hike, with unexpectedly rough terrain that resulted in chaffing in the upper, inner thigh area? Unfortunately I have experienced this once to the degree that bandages were needed for a week afterwards. Rubbed off the outer layer of skin, making 1.5" dual circles of pure torture. One of the most uncomfortable experiences that I can remember. This occurred on a day hike.

The consequences could have been also dangerous from ridk of infections, had this occurred the first day of a backpacking trip (see BodyGlide Anti-Chafe review for details ... the wrong choice trail option first introduced us the "'Witch of Squak Mountain ... and then the trail turned worse).

Solution for inner and upper leg chaffing is long inseam underwear and when needed BodyGlide (see review) can assist. I haven't needed BodyGlide for this use since I began using this upper leg protecting gear. But I keep it handy in case, and it helps chaffing foot areas. These briefs washed after every hike in Sportswash in cold water and air dry are as good as new after at least 60 weekly washings.

Not my only briefs!  The much more expensive Under Armour are heavier fabric, too hot for most my uses and they are my winter set. I bought them first but they are too hot in summer. The much more expensive ExOfficio 'Give and Go' set are very lightweight and are my hot summer gear of choice. They were purchased to give me one backup to the New Balance. Being cooler still they preferably get this use.

The New Balance could have done all of these roles alone. However, since I picked up the others as backups, I'm using them in optimal ways, besides just as backup..
