Under Armour ArmourVent Trail Short

rated 4 of 5 stars These shorts excel as the temps rise, with no riding, no chafing, and no cause for excessive sweating. The hybrid waistband stands out as simple technology that makes these shorts not only highly comfortable, but also highly practical. Conditions: I’ve worn these shorts repeatedly for three months during a rather hot and humid summer with temps regularly above 90°F (32°C) and humidity levels northward of 80%. I’ve hiked, paddled, swam, mountain biked, climbed, and even played a pick-up game… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Elkommando Kilt

rated 5 of 5 stars Great for warm weather hiking or backpacking. But could use more belt loops. Also needs a right hand side slash pocket—now if you put something in the slit where you expect a slash pocket it just falls to the ground. Needs a velcro reinforcement of the modesty snap, or an even stronger fastener. After a 5-day backpack on the Pacific Crest Trail in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State, I can say that this hiking skirt is definitely better than shorts for warm weather. That is, you get good… Full review

Skhoop Alaska Long Down Skirt

rated 5 of 5 stars I never would have guessed a skirt could be warmer than pants, but it is! Having evaluated this Skhoop Long Down Skirt in Patagonia, Argentina, I learned this goose down filled skirt is something that will block wind and keep you warmer than pants! A skirt will trap heat with minimal surface area (one tube) to exchange heat with the cold, whereas pants (two tubes) have more surface area, thus more area for cold to take over. (Ask an engineer versed in thermodynamics.) I found the long skirt useful… Full review

Skhoop Gretchen Windstopper Mini Skirt

rated 4 of 5 stars SKHOOP's Gretchen may draw you in with its good looks, but it's not a skirt to take lightly. A flattering insulated skirt, the Gretchen provides an extra layer of warmth in the backcountry and incorporates side stretch panels for easy layering and unrestricted movement. This skirt is worn comfortably hiking, snowshoeing, backcountry nordic skiing, and around town. While I could certainly survive in the backcountry without it, I've found myself bringing it along, unwilling to part with it, on many… Full review

The North Face Class V Trunk

rated 5 of 5 stars I own four pairs of these shorts. I'm a big fan. These shorts fit true to size and have a nice built-in liner. It's nice and comfortable, unlike the liners of shorts from some other brands that I've worn. The shorts rest a couple of inches above the knee, and they are comfortable when moving. They work well in activities ranging from running to swimming. A drawstring helps keep the shorts tight in the water. The shorts dry pretty quickly—maybe 15 minutes in the sun or 30-45 outside of the sun. Full review

Purple Rain Adventure Skirt

rated 5 of 5 stars Great skirt for hiking, backpacking, around the ranch, and around the office. Pockets are great for a smartphone. Material is lightweight, quick drying, and soft. Ideal for walking, hiking, running, and backpacking for men and women. The Purple Rain skirt is a nearly perfect design for hiking and backpacking. As a male user, it hangs well, feels good against the skin, and drys quickly when wet. The flare is excellent for leg movement, offering considerable range in stride. The pocket design is really… Full review

Royal Robbins Traveler Stretch Short

rated 4.5 of 5 stars So many great features combined into one awesome pair of shorts. The Royal Robbins Traveler Stretch Shorts are now my go-to shorts for numerous activities. I received these shorts, along with several other items, as a prize for being Trailspace's “Reviewer of the Month”.One of the first things that I noticed when I first started inspecting these shorts was the quality. They are well made and have great stitching. Stylish enough to pair with a nice shirt and wear out in town and versatile enough… Full review

JWalking Designs Mad About Plaid Active Skirt/Kilt

rated 4 of 5 stars An excellent skirt/kilt for MEN and women hikers and backpackers. Nice length. Like the blue/green plaid colors. This is a really comfortable, well-built walking, hiking, and backpacking skirt/kilt for MEN and women. As I wear this more around home, in my home-office, and while working outside on the ranch, I am appreciating this skirt more and more. Purchased the "Mad-About-Plaid Blue/Green" women’s. Alison proportioned the material nicely top to bottom, providing a real range of motion not… Full review

Patagonia Men's Strider Pro Short

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Light but protective short that gets out of the way, yet lets you carry tons of stuff. Fit I will say it up front, I love the Strider Pro shorts. When trail running or hiking up steep hills I love the fit of them. The 5" inseam means they do not pull on your quads when going up steep terrain. They have a split on the side to give you extra freedom of movement while covering you up well enough. For me a 5" inseam is perfect. The waistband is a good elastic, but also has a lace that you can tie in… Full review
