Mountain Equipment Ibex Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars Excellent lightweight stretchable soft shell pant suitable for hiking, backpacking, snowsports, and mountaineering. Water resistant and wind blocking, they are comfortable over a wide range of temperatures. I received a pair of the Mountain Equipment Ibex Pants in January and have had the pleasure of putting them through a thorough testing in a variety of conditions. A pair of 34" waist, regular length pair fit my 5'9", 165lb frame very well. The fit is described as Alpine with a regular ankle. Full review

Patagonia Men's Super Guide Pants

rated 5 of 5 stars Trustworthy do-it-all winter pant. These have been my go-to winter pants for the better part of a decade. Ice climbing, backcountry skiing, lift-served skiing, snowshoeing, shoveling the driveway, making snow, the Super Guides have done it all with aplomb. And they blend in well enough around town, too. Five zippered pockets -- two hand, two thigh, one rear -- allow for plenty of easily-acessible storage for both everyday essentials (keys, wallet, phone) and winter activity specifics -- maps, scrapers,… Full review

Thunderbolt Sportswear Mark II Original Jean

rated 4 of 5 stars Fashion and performance means you can take these from the office to the mountaintop. Water and stain resistant with 4-way stretch fabric, these pants are good looking and tough as nails. Once and a while a product comes along that you never thought about, but when you see it, you say what took so long. The Thunderbolt Sportswear original Mark-II jeans fill the bill and then some. Constructed of softshell fabric from the Swiss company Schoeller, these jeans are amazingly multi-functional. The… Full review

Patagonia Women's Simple Guide Pants

rated 5 of 5 stars The best go-anywhere, do pretty much anything softshell pants — totally dependable and sturdy. I bought these initially for a mountaineering trip to NZ and they have proved to be the most valuable part of my autumn/winter wardrobe. Suited to almost any cool/cold climate activity, they have skied, snow-shoed, climbed, cycled, and kept me warm and cosy through howling gales and miles and miles of backcountry travel. A totally bombproof and very comfortable pair of pants — and even after all their… Full review

Bergans Moa Pirate Pant

rated 4 of 5 stars The Bergans of Norway Moa Pirate Pants are a nice, all-around functional garment. The capris style provides more coverage than shorts, but is still great for staying cool in hot and muggy environments. I especially liked the fabric for its lightweight, stretchy and quick-dry properties. On the downside, it has a rather paper-like feel and makes a considerable "swooshing" noise when rubbed together. Fit, styling, and construction are good and on par with a higher price-point. Manufacturer Claims:… Full review

Arc'teryx Men's Gamma MX Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars A major upgrade over wool pants. They're rugged, but soft. They're warm and water repellant. I wear them XC skiing, sometimes with a ski bib over them. I wear them bushwhacking. Full review

Beyond Clothing M5 Glacier Pant

rated 2 of 5 stars $380— I was expecting a lifelong pant with terrific quality and features. NOPE, the cheapest zippers on the pockets that I have EVER seen, AND, misconstructed on top of that. Sent back, then one month later I get them back and the zipper bottom had a cheap, bent-up plastic clasp replaced at the bottom. I had to hammer it and straighten it myself. Second pair, pocket zipper froze due to the same cheap construction. Sent back, three weeks later they are on a one-week track back to my address. They… Full review

Bergans Okla Lady Pant

rated 3 of 5 stars Designed for ski touring and mountaineering, the Okla does not live up to expectations when it comes to these activities. The cuff is too narrow to comfortably accommodate a ski touring boot, and the thin, lightweight material is unlikely to provide adequate insulation in higher elevations. However, the Okla is an excellent option for those on the market for a lightweight, breathable soft-shell pant that can be worn across a variety of other winter activities such as snowshoeing, backcountry nordic… Full review

Outdoor Research Men's Ferrosi Pants

rated 5 of 5 stars The Outdoor Research Ferrosi Pants are extremely comfortable. They are breathable, water-resistant, wind-resistant, and move with you during activity. I bought these pants (that are technically rock-climbing pants) in an attempt to get some super comfortable hiking pants that move with me and that were not baggy on my legs. These are not Outdoor Research (OR)'s most slim fitting pants but they are not "relaxed." I bought these at Rock Creek in Chattanooga, Tenn., by recommendation of one of their… Full review
