Where to Buy
Using the sidecut from the original Mantra, we’ve designed a new backcountry ski for skiers who want the width to float in the powder with a lightweight, yet powerful ski. If they do encounter firm snow, the Nanuq features our Multi Layer Wood Core for rock solid stability and edge grip.
Here's what other sites are saying:
When you have a love for something as deep and ardent as yours for pristine pow, the right ski for optimal lovin' is imperative. The hike-ready Volkl Nanuq Ski is lightweight enough for marathon laps but has a mid-fat waist for float and stability. A tip rocker makes turn-entry a breeze and prevents tip dive in deep snow. The Nanuq has a wide-radius sidecut for letting loose when you get to a beautiful wide-open bowl and really want to go nuts. Perhaps the most versatile of the Volkl backcountry skis, it's still quick edge-to-edge thanks to its traditional camber and stiff torsion box. Plus, the proprietary Skin Pin attachment system let you get snap the pre-cut matching skin off in a hurry so you get your pick of lines.
The Volkl Nanuq telemark/randonee skis feature a shape of 131/96/114 and rockered tips for a forgiving ride no matter what the snow conditions are. Construction features a multilayer core of poplar and beech wood that is wrapped in composite and fiberglass near the middle of the ski to add strength and snap. Vertical sidewalls combine with the wrapped core to provide excellent grip and stability while skiing hard and fast. Tip rocker combines early-rise tips with classic camber in the rest of the skis to provide easy, smooth turn initiation; tip rocker is forgiving and floats well in soft snow. Holes in the front of the skis function as skin attachment points for Volkl-brand skins (not included). Non-Volkl-brand skins (sold separately) can also be used with the Nunataq skis. Base or topsheet color may vary from online photo.
The Nanuq Ski from Volkl uses a multi-layer wood core and CNC milled wood to provide powder-loving flex in a ski that's light enough to get you easily to the top and back. The performance design and tip rocker are tough and lively for backcountry riders who want to add some excitement to their runs. Built-in Skin Pin system lets you effortlessly attach climbing skins.
