The Grivel Racing Crampon bolts directly to the bottom of your boot to provide a level of mixed climbing precision that regular crampons can't touch. By eliminating all extraneous hardware or moving parts, Grivel stripped the Racing Crampon to its most basic components and dropped the weight to under 21-ounces per pair. A removable heel spur allows previously unthinkable moves, rests on overhanging terrain, and lets you scratch your way up a hanging dagger without relying on the dubious friction of your softshell pants. *Comes with mounting hardware. Modern sport mixed routes and ice-climbing competitions are so steep that equipment weight has a decisive influence on muscular fatigue. The energy cost of weight on the feet is multiplied due to the length of the lever (the legs), and reducing this load allows sustained movements that would be otherwise impossible to execute. The Racing crampon is the result of Grivel s great experience with ice-climbing competition, and these were used by 2002 Ice World Cup champions Dimitri Bitchkov and Xenia Sdobnikova. The Racing is permanently attached to the boot sole. The front may be configured with dual or mono point, and the aggressive heel spur may be removed according to one s ethical position on the matter.
