Here's what other sites are saying:

The Silent Partner by Rock Exotica is a solo climber's dream come true. A chest harness is not required to use the Silent Partner, rather it attaches directly to your waist harness. Tie a clove hitch around the wheel to use the Silent Partner. While the Silent Partner will automatically feed rope while you climb, it will immediately lock in any type of a fall. A centrifugal mechanism inside the wheel allows the rope to feed very smoothly as you climb. If a fall occurs, the speed causes the wheel to lock and your clove hitch will stop the fall. This device can be used for both leading and top roping and will catch you no matter what direction the fall. Additionally, the Silent Partner is easy on your rope because there are no sharp parts or strange rope bends. Still, like any other tool, the Silent Partner needs to be backed up and you should never trust your life to a single piece of gear. The Silent Partner comes with a very complete instruction manual which explains how to use the device in great detail. Strengh: 4,000 lbf (22.2kN) Weight: 15 oz. Note that this item of climbing safety equipment is non-returnable. Please call us toll free at 877-236-8428 or e-mail bentgate@bentgate.com with any questions.

Despite the complex issues and increased risk associated with solo climbing, it does offer many rewards. The Silent Partner is a speed-activated braking device that attaches to a climbing rope with a clove hitch, and to your harness via two locking carabiners. Because the device is sensitive to rope speed, the Silent Partner will lock up to stop a fall regardless of body position. It will also function as a lowering device by simply passing the rope around your hip to provide friction. Although roped solo climbing is not for everyone, for those who take the time to learn how, and accept the inherent risks, it does offer many advantages.
