Mexican Style Rice and Chicken

rated 3 of 5 stars This Mountain House entrée offers the backcountry backpacker convenience and calories in 8-9 minutes—just add water for a ready-made meal—but its seasoning lacks zest or kick and its significant rice content will make big appetites yearn for more a few hours after eating. Note: This is a review of the Mountain House Mexican Style Rice & Chicken, a 5.5 oz/153g meal that comes in a blue plastic and foil pouch familiar to many campers and backpackers. Mexican Style Rice and Chicken

rated 3 of 5 stars This is a good backpacker's freeze-dried meal — not wonderful, but not bad either. Ah, Mountain House. Brand of bland. Or, if not actually bland, then usually very average apart from a tendency towards over-salted. This, its Mexican Style Rice and Chicken, does not disappoint.  It is not wonderful. It is very average.  But that just means that it satisfies — it quickly and conveniently fills a backpacker's stomach. It was not as salty as many of MH's offerings, was decently spicy, and had… Full review

Scrambled Eggs with Bacon

rated 2 of 5 stars They're dried eggs! They serve the purpose of nutrition. Life can be iffy. These meals are the Iffy busters. I bought this single serving Mountain House Freeze Dried Scrambled Eggs with Bacon while browsing in my local Walmart, down the camping aisle. Since I was going to be taking a trip up to the mountains, I thought it would be nice to try. I'm not a big fan of powdered eggs and some freeze dried meals, this was my opportunity to sample the eggs with bacon. Not Bad. Great for camping or emergencies. Full review

Chicken Teriyaki with Rice

rated 3 of 5 stars This was not a very tasty entrée. I've had much better. I wouldn't recommend this product. The seasoning did not mix well. This resulted in clumps of seasoning and a very poor taste. I wouldn't have guessed it was 'teriyaki' in a blind taste test, I just would have guessed it was chicken and sauce. The portion was good. It was filling and thick and hearty. I won't be buying this one again. I've had other freeze dried meals that tasted good, so this one won't make it back into my menu. Full review

Beef Stroganoff with Noodles

rated 4 of 5 stars I admit to having limited experience with backpacking type foods, but I purchased this product and one of a different brand and was amazed at the difference in the two. Mountain House (MH) was by far a better product in both taste and appearance. This product would easily be a satisfying meal on the trail or in the bunker and I would recommend MH as the go to for anyone who loves Beef Stroganoff. I purchased this product and one of a different brand and was amazed at the difference in the two. The… Full review
