Eagles Nest Outfitters SingleNest

user rating: 4.5 of 5 (32 reviews)

Great for motorcycle camping if you have the space to pack it.I consider a hammock to be a high-priority, optional item when motorcycle camping. After packing my essential gear and clothes, I can usually find a little more space to pack this hammock. It compresses down to the size of a softball. When I arrive at my destination, I select a campsite with at least two trees positioned about 10 to 12 feet apart so that I can set up my hammock. As soon as I get my tent and dining area set up, I set up the hammock and then relax with a book and a cool drink.

Grand Trunk Double Parachute Nylon Hammock

user rating: 5 of 5 (6 reviews)

It's really lightweight, packs down really small and is super comfortable. It is cheaper than comparable hammocks from other companies even though it includes a hanging system. It's a great option for backpacking, hanging up in the backyard, or wherever you want to use it (as long as there are trees of course). Enjoy it, you deserve it.

Reasons to Buy

  • Lightweight
  • Inexpensive
  • Hanging system included

Reasons to Avoid

  • Included ropes are short.

I bought this hammock about 3 weeks ago, while working at a summer camp.  I slept in it nearly every night for 2 of those weeks (some rainy nights included) and can say that it was probably the best night’s rest I’d had all summer.  Starting with what I like about it, it’s cheaper than the ENO double hammock but weighs the same, is just as strong and also includes the suspension system, which is lacking from the ENO.  While the hammock is hung up the attached stuff sack doubles as a storage pocket for whatever you need throughout the night.  I’ve stored my phone, headlamp, flip flops and a book in it at the same time and still had room left over.  The hanging ropes are really nice, other than the fact that they can be too short...

Eagles Nest Outfitters JungleNest

user rating: 5 of 5 (3 reviews)

Perhaps the most rounded-out hammock with integrated bug netting currently available for jungle-style backpacking and camping. Easy, quick, and intuitive—especially when used in conjunction with ENO’s own Helios straps. Perfect setup takes less than a minute even in the dark, or with gloves in the cold. It’s also relatively lightweight, well designed and built. More importantly, it’s roomy and comfortable to lay, highly functional, and even has a few nice touches. Finally, it’s fairly priced and should last a long time if correctly used. Could still see some refinements and upgrades (of course), but it’s a can’t-go-wrong option that definitely improves the outdoor experience, and should please even the most demanding hammockers.

Reasons to Buy

  • Connection system is a winner
  • Super fast and easy setup and takedown
  • Comfortable
  • Relatively lightweight and compact
  • Nice design, good craftsmanship, durable materials throughout
  • Two internal pockets add practicality and versatility
  • Roomy interior (DAC spreader bar)
  • Strong Spectra ridgeline and connection cords with nice and clever alu toggles

Reasons to Avoid

  • Can’t remove the ridgeline nor the storage sack (though that doesn’t bother me).
  • No underquilt hooks (I don’t use UQs, but may bother some)
  • Clear mesh with stitching ribbons net takes from the view and can stain
  • Lighweight = requires care
  • Insects can still bite through the fabric (as in all single layer hammocks, really)
  • Doesn’t work as great with carabiners

The short ENO really hit a home run with the Junglenest. When paired with their excellent Helios tree straps, it makes for ultra-fast, intuitive assembly—a plus in any situation, more so when tired, in a rush, or it’s about to rain (even in the dark or wearing gloves). It’s well built, lightweight, and compact enough for one nighters, maybe just slightly overkill (as in too big) for day outings. The ENO Jnglenest assembled with the S2S inflatable sleeping pad inside.  Finally, it’s comfortable and roomy, and has few nice extras, like the collapsible spreader bar, internal pockets (two), mesh that can be fully opened, etc., turning it versatile and enjoyable enough for short or long trips.

Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest

user rating: 5 of 5 (109 reviews)

A versatile, portable, comfortable and easily accessible option for overnight sleeping or just a quick rest. Compresses to a size slightly larger than a grapefruit.

Reasons to Buy

  • Stuff sack = side pocket. Great for phone, wallet, sunglasses, etc.
  • Quick drying
  • 400 lbs. capacity means I can lay in it with my wife, let my nieces and nephew play in it, or if a black bear comes by and wants to take a nap in it, it won't break.
  • Easy to operate (easy to carry, easy to pack, easy to set-up, easy to tear-down, easy to dry, etc.)

Reasons to Avoid

  • Uninsulated
  • Expensive accessories

With more than 100 reviews on Trailspace and almost all of them receiving either a 4 or 5-star rating, I think that goes to show this product is pretty well liked, easily accessible and performs well. There isn't a lot that I can add to the numerous reviews from people who have spent more time in their ENO DoubleNest than I have. You can find tons of photos of the hammock set up and even more photos of people's feet from inside the hammock, so I won't bother you with another one of those photos.

Hennessy Hammock Ultralight Backpacker Asym

user rating: 4.5 of 5 (15 reviews)

The Hennessey Hammock Ultralight Backpacker Asym is a high quality shelter that will help you cut significant weight from your gear load.

Reasons to Buy

  • highly functional
  • comfortable
  • high quality
  • light weight
  • compact
  • cooler than a tent

Reasons to Avoid

  • slightly tedious setup
  • standard fly is a bit small

I have used the Hennessey for a couple of summers and I find that my summer pack is much lighter without sacrificing comfort. This particular model will hold about 200 lbs capacity. It fits my 5' 9" frame, with room to spare. I find it a bit amazing because the suspension ropes are less than 1/4" in diameter yet are super strong and do not appear to stretch much at all.   The kit comes with a nifty stuff sack with instructions printed on the side, two 1" wide nylon tree straps, a silnylon fly and a silnylon and net body.

Hennessy Hammock Explorer Deluxe Asym

user rating: 4 of 5 (10 reviews)

The Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Hammock is great for anyone that wants to sleep comfortably while hiking or camping! Its design allows you to sleep diagonally and FLAT!

Reasons to Buy

  • Solidly made
  • Integrated bug net
  • Compact and light

Reasons to Avoid

  • Must have trees to hang from to comfortable

I have owned this hammock for three years now and have not slept on the ground since!   The Hennessy Explorer Deluxe comes with everything you need to start hanging. It includes "tree huggers", or straps to protect the tree trunk from damage, a rain fly, an integrated bug net, a carrying bag, and ropes that are connected to the hammock to hang it with! There are different versions you may encounter — the older model has Velcro closed end-entry access, the newer models have a side-entry zipper available too.

Kammok Roo Single

user rating: 5 of 5 (2 reviews)

A great all-purpose camping hammock.

Reasons to Buy

  • Lightweight
  • Integrated stuff sac
  • Gear-attachment loops on both sides

Reasons to Avoid

  • "Python Straps" not included

The Kammok Roo is only the latest in a series of camping hammocks I have owned, but is my favorite so far! DESIGN: The Roo shows the most attention to detail of any camping hammock I have used to this point.  Its design is similar to the Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest, but with a few key differentiators.   First, the sides of the hammock have multiple gear-attachment-points (3 on each side). These have proven to be quite useful for lanterns (My Snow Peak Mini Hozuki snaps on quite nicely here), utensils, etc.

Hummingbird Hammocks Single+

user rating: 5 of 5 (1 review)

Reasons to Buy

  • Ultra-lightweight and compact
  • Comfortable
  • The + is very spacious
  • Material is windproof, which is good for overnight camping and backpacking
  • Simple and effective button system replace heavy carabiners
  • Durable

Reasons to Avoid

  • Material is a little plastic-y for some, though I personally find it very comfortable to the touch
  • Lightweight and thin fabric requires care

I’ll go straight to the record and say I really like Hummingbird stuff. They have top-level, high-end equipment that caters to my lightweight style backpacking and camping activities. They also have top customer service, replacement parts aplenty, and all that for a reasonable price. Their gear is well designed and manufactured, with lots of attention to detail: I appreciate the flawless and consistent sewing, the original and simple solutions that just work well (e.g. the “soft link” plastic buttons instead of carabiners), the use of high-tech materials like Dyneema, parachute fabric, lock stitching, and so on.

Eagles Nest Outfitters Double Deluxe

user rating: 5 of 5 (2 reviews)

It can be used anywhere, I've used it while camping, while tailgating, while at the beach, and even while on a cruise ship. This is one of those products that you should always carry with you and can never leave home without.

Reasons to Buy

  • Small size while packed, large size when using
  • Ease of use, can be used anywhere

Reasons to Avoid

  • Double Deluxe are becoming harder to find
  • Wish the warranty was longer

I am 6'6" and my wife is 6'0", so we are not little people, and we both comfortably fit in our Double Deluxe and use it a lot. I get so much use out of it and it is so comfortable I have passed on a bed before for a night's sleep in the hammock. For me this item is like a pocket knife. I am never without one and am always prepared. On the verge of buying another so I can leave one in my truck at all times. Great product from a great company.  This product has bailed me out of many ground naps and has even spruced up some vacations; used this on our balcony on our last cruise. It really can be used anywhere and at anytime! Great versatility!

Grand Trunk Ultralight Hammock

user rating: 4 of 5 (12 reviews)

A great deal on a decent lightweight hammock.

Reasons to Buy

  • Lightweight (wouldn't call it ultralight)
  • Cheap
  • Mine came with suspension
  • Longer and wider than true "ultralights"

Reasons to Avoid

  • Cheap, short suspension
  • Smaller than "camping" hammocks

After enjoying a post-hike hang in a buddy's hammock my last time out, I'd been thinking of getting a lightweight hammock. I ran across the Grand Trunk Ultralight at Cabela's for $19.99 and couldn't resist.  Unlike the reviews below, mine came with a suspension.   The hammock itself is polyester, 114" long, 54" wide, and weighs in at 12.2 oz. including the two S-hooks which weigh 1 oz each.  The integrated stuff sack serves as a pocket while hung. Being a weight freak, I'm looking for lighter weight alternatives to the stainless S-hooks.
