R2K Pants

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Great lightweight pants -- very suited to hiking. Made from nylon and so they give protection from wind and also are quick-drying when wet. Large pockets with snaps enable you to stash your maps and phone safely yet give you the ability for quick and easy access.   Purchased at Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC). I bought a second pair of these pants for my hiking activities in 2013.  I have an older pair that I purchased over a year ago in another color.  I simply wanted a second pair as backup when… Full review

rated 5 of 5 stars A good quality climbing pack for rock. It will also be useful for shorter ice climbing approaches. I use this pack for rock climbing. For a small pack I can get all I need into it including my rope and lunch. It has a very tough exterior so no babying this piece of kit.   It fits my medium woman's frame (fully loaded) well enough for all the approaches this year from just a few minutes to a couple of hours. It is well constructed and surprisingly affordable. Grab it before it is sold out! Full review

Silicone Guides Tarp

rated 5 of 5 stars Great all-purpose emergency shelter for a small group. This is Mountain Equipment Co-op's larger housebrand siltarp. Personally, I'm not fond of them for camping – I prefer tents – but as tarps go this is one of the better designs. Many guides carry it for emergencies, or just as a shelter for a group in case of an unexpected rainstorm. I've used it both ways, for shelter from wind or rain at a campsite, or as an impromptu umbrella to wait out a storm or to take a group of clients down a rainy… Full review

Synergy LT Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars Excellent reasonably priced jacket. Most Gore-tex Pro jackets out there are all pretty similar. This one falls into the category of lightweight jacket for summer use. It has excellent waterproofing as you would expect. The seam sealing is decent. The two alpine style (cross reach) pockets. But this jacket is incredibly well priced. For a summer alpine jacket this is a cheaper alternative to something like the Marmot Speed Light. However it lacks the rubbish pockets that the Speed Light has. Being… Full review

Tarn 2

rated 3 of 5 stars Three season, two (1.5, really) person tent. Single entry, pyramid design, ply/nylon construction. Intended use, backpacking. A little heavy weighing in at almost 3 kgs. I used this tent backpacking on Vancouver Island over a period of two weeks.  Setup: I found this tent very easy to pitch. The only issue arises when clipping the fly to the poles, as there seems to be a little too much tension, and it can be difficult to get the ends of the poles into their anchors at the ends of the tent body.
