Montrail Men's Torre GTX

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Good trekking boot. Bought these used in size 15; Normally I wear a 13 so they are a touch long in front and I tend to stub my toe. Otherwise they work pretty well for me. Good arch support and lacing system is excellent. Vibram sole has a sole pattern I would characterize as mud shedding medium traction. Seems to work OK on desert scrubs and rock hiking. Ankle support is not spectacular, but this is a mid-height trekking boot. Not a heavy hiker or mountaineering boot. Not sure this form factor… Full review

Salomon Men's Quest 4D 2 GTX

rated 5 of 5 stars Reviews on boots are like reviews on pizza. Lots of different flavors with everyone having a favorite. The Quest 4D 2's are my favorite pizza. I only have about 140 miles on the Quest 4D 2's but with about 80 of them coming last week on a solo in the Eastern Sierras (go there....backpack there) I've been able to form a pretty strong opinion. A pretty basic one too. Best I've ever worn and I'm stoked to have found my way to them. I lean towards midweight hikers that are made for backpacking but work… Full review

Zamberlan Men's 996 Vioz GT

rated 5 of 5 stars Best for backpacking on trails; however, I have used them off trail. If I was limited to one pair of boots or shoes, I would keep these. They are that good. I wear a size 9 1/2 Lowe boot (Baffin) and this boot is also a size 9 1/2, so they seem true to size. Minimal break in and it accepts aftermarket footbeds. The boot has a slight rocker and it is a dream to walk in.   I do clean and treat the leather after a muddy or snowy hike. I have used them on a two-night, early winter backpack in snow… Full review

Zamberlan Men's 996 Vioz GT

rated 5 of 5 stars I buy men's boots because I need an 11.5 M in women's and those are unavailable in most brands. My 10.5 size M Zamberlan 996 VIOZ GTX fit like a dream! No break in needed. I do wear with boot socks. Mainly use for hiking purposes. Love the Italian leather and inside cushioning. As I indicated I am a lady who needs to buy men's boots because of the sizing. In a shoe I buy 11.5. M. The 996 VIOZ GTX fit me like a tee sizing down to a 10.5 (EURO 45). I wear cotton boot socks and the boots fit like they… Full review

Alico Backcountry Boot

rated 4 of 5 stars Italian built backpacking boot. Water resistant and true to size. Provides excellent ankle protection and the stiff sole assists when traveling across rocky terrain. I have terrible ankles, always have. I am just getting back into backpacking and wanted a pair of boots that provided good support, were water resistant, looked OK, would last, and wouldn't break the bank. These things deliver. I purchased online and went with my normal 9.5, and these fit me very well. There is enough room in the toe-box… Full review

Esatto Men's Classic Hiker

rated 2 of 5 stars If you are considering Esatto because you want quality boots, you can get top quality at 1/3 Esatto’s prices. If you are considering Esatto because your feet cannot fit in commercially produced boots, then you might consider Esatto, but you may still be disappointed. It took me a long time to begin writing this review because I don’t want to negatively impact another man’s livelihood. But for these prices, I should have received much better product and better service. It took many, many months… Full review

Herman Men's Survivor

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Owned for 13 days. Split toe from sole of shoe. Returned to Walmart. Would NOT refund, would NOT REPLACE. Herman Survivors are no longer guaranteed and are definitely NOT returnable. DO NOT BUY. Factory owned by Walmart and moved to CHINA. I have purchased Herman Survivor boots for years. Noticed last pair only lasted 4 months but purchased another pair at Walmart. Wore for 10 days and toe split from sole of shoe.  I packed up shoes and returned to store. Had receipt. It was obvious shoes were… Full review

Rugged Outback Waterproof Hikers

rated 4 of 5 stars These shoes are great for anyone who wants a durable and comfortable shoe. I have used these shoes for both backpacking trips and short hikes, and they worked well on all the trips. I recommend these for any avid hiker or backpacker as a comfortable shoe! I found these in my basement after a couple of years and they fit so I kept them. They are very good shoes that are extremely comfortable to wear, and they work well in the field. Working in the outdoor industry I am constantly on the search for… Full review

Danner Mountain Light II

rated 1 of 5 stars The heel cup can cause severe problems. My first pair of MLIIs (vintage early 1990s) never gave me a problem and I wore them out, so I recently bought a new pair directly from the Danner store in Portland, where they're made. After about 150 miles, they began to cause painful agony and I can no longer wear them. The internal heel cup inside the liner digs into the back of my left, outside ankle bone making every step extremely painful. The plastic cup is now thicker, higher and harder than in the… Full review
