Recent Backpacking Boot Reviews

Lundhags Syncro High

rated 5 of 5 stars Legendary. It is hard to write a review on boots that you cannot find any real faults with.  My dad bought a pair 15 years ago. Almost every day he walks/run in the mountains in Lofoten for 10 to 15 miles. It is boot torture.  They still work. Their durability is legendary, and most people have these for life.  I got mine a year ago and I have used them on every hike since (around 20 to 30 miles a week). I just love them. But...these boots fit my feet. You have to try them on. These are rugged… Full review

Salomon Men's Quest 4D 2 GTX

rated 3 of 5 stars A fine boot, although a bit soft (especially for my liking). Bought this pair as a replacement for my leather boots that I’ve been using for years. This is my first pair of boots with Gore-Tex that I have tried and I can say right now that I don’t like it. They get much too moist on the inside compared to regular leather boots and I have the feeling that they dry out much slower than non-waterproof hiking boots. I might still use them for hikes that I know will get wet, but I’ve never really… Full review

Vasque Men's St. Elias GTX

rated 5 of 5 stars This boot is very stable and comfortable. Having other Vasque boots over the years, I knew what to expect and was not disappointed. I would highly recommend this boot for backpackers as well as hikers. This boot is very stable and comfortable. Having owned other Vasque boots over the years, I knew what to expect and was not disappointed. I like that you have the ability to get your size in Wide as I have a wide foot and this allowed me to get the correct fit. I have worn these boots carrying 40+lbs… Full review

Herman Men's Survivor

rated 2 of 5 stars I bought a pair of the Herman Survivor Hunting Boots and used them 4 times turkey hunting. The sole on my left boot completely came off while turkey hunting and the right boot began to break loose. I would not buy another pair of these boots.  Even though they are a cheap price, I did not expect to have the sole completely come off and the other boot began doing the same thing.   Full review

Limmer Men's Light-Weight

rated 5 of 5 stars Very comfortable. Feels light while still being supportive. Great customer service. Good for backpacking for lighter people with moderate loads (~40-60 pounds). Once broken in, the Limmer Lightweights have been the most comfortable boots that I've worn for backpacking. They do take a while to break in (~50-100 miles) and Limmer recommends wearing them around for daily walking to help the break in process.  Even though they are called lightweights, they are just as supportive as other backpacking… Full review

Salomon Men's Quest 4D 2 GTX

rated 4 of 5 stars I bought these boots a month ago and they are great. Right out of the box comfortable, no break-in period. Fully waterproof, I sat with my feet in a stream for 5 minutes, all dry inside. Wider in the toe which I needed. Lacing is a little slow. Full review

Rugged Outback Waterproof Hikers

rated 1 of 5 stars Only had boots for three months and the front sole is coming off. I have been wearing work boots for well over 30 years and as far as I'm concerned I just wasted 60 bucks. Let's see if Rugged Outback will honor the boots and send me another pair. I JUST lost 60 bucks. The sole has come unglued. Seems there was some bad glue used. Let's see if Rugged Outback will honor their boots. I only had these boots for three months and now they are junk. Full review

Herman Men's Survivor

rated 5 of 5 stars I have put them through hell. They have held up to every job and are still completely waterproof. I have run over 500 miles in them for cross-country running and worked for close to two years doing everything from roofing to concrete. I have to say they are the best boots I've ever owned. The finishing of them were welding. but I knew better.   Full review

Chaco Men's Beckwith

rated 1 of 5 stars Beyond terrible. The Chaco Beckwith is hands down the worst piece of outdoor equipment I've ever owned. Despite spending 3 hours in the store with weight, on an actual trail these boots caused the worst heel blistering I've ever encountered, derived entirely by a reinforced heel cup that was as inflexible as steel. Any incline whatsoever forced the heel into this cup with brutal efficiency. Three miles into my first hike and my heels were bloody nubs. Not only was the Beckwith terrible, the company… Full review
