Herman Men's Survivor

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Cheap boots. Don't waste your time and money. Chinese junk. I understand Herman Survivors are now built in China and owned by Wal-Mart. My own experience with them has been very poor. I purchased and wore them just six months and the sole of one of them came loose—literally fell off half way from front of boot to back.  I tried gluing it, but with the sole flexing and the heat (working in desert conditions) the glue did not work.  Someone told me the old company used to give you a life time… Full review

John Calden Boots Men's Mountain Hiking Boot

rated 5 of 5 stars There are very few craftsmen left in the world who can make a boot like John Calden. If you do a lot of backcountry hiking, your feet deserve a pair of these boots. I have kind of unusual feet. I wear a size 11, but my foot is very low volume. I have struggled with blisters for almost 30 years with store bought boots. I finally decided to find a craftsman out there to make me a pair of custom boots. I found John Calden after extensive research. I only wish I had found him earlier. He is one of a… Full review

Vasque Skywalk

rated 2 of 5 stars Soles rot. Soles fell off/apart after about three years of moderate use. Had soles replaced and now doing the same again. Have to revert to 43-year-old Red Wings which show no sign of sole failure and have had heavy heavy use. The Vasques are more comfortable on the feet and have Gore Tex=dry, but the sole failure is very bad. First time it happened caught by total surprise as ankle kept trying to angle funny. Caused to inspect and had simply oxidized to crumbly failure in many places esp. in the… Full review

Danner Mountain Light II

rated 2 of 5 stars Most uncomfortable boot I ever owned. I am 70 years old and have been hiking most of my life. I bought these boots for a hiking trip to New Zealand.  I heard these were a premier hiking boot and are waterproof. I have put 60 miles on them and they are still stiff and clunky. The heel pocket is too loose and the toe box is tight. It is difficult to get the laces tight enough around the ankle, so you don't get enough support.   Full review

Herman Men's Survivor

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Do not waste your money. My boots didn't even last a year before the soles fell apart and now absorb water rather than repelling. I cannot even walk on anything wet without my feet getting wet. I have had the boots for about 8 months and wear them a couple times a week. Boots suck, not the Survivors of old. Walmart now owns the company and makes the boots in China. Mine did not last more than 8 months before becoming unwearable...within 2 months the soles were falling apart. Shame. Full review

Lowa Men's Tibet Pro GTX

rated 5 of 5 stars The Tibet Pro GTX—about as good as it gets!!! Although touted as a heavier-duty backpacker's hiking boot, I purchased these as a replacement for a wonderful pair of 6" tall Mephisto GTX hikers that I used as everyday casual/sportswear boots as well as light on and off-trail hikers. These Lowa Tibet Pros might be a bit of overkill for my intended uses and I did also purchase a lighter pair of Dachstein hikers, but I am more than satisfied with the Lowas in every way! In short, these boots are beautifully… Full review

Merrell Men's Wilderness

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Excellent boot! [Revised Below.] I have been a backpacker since the early 1970s. I also grew up in the country and wore hiking boots every day. I walked to and from grade school and hiked around with my friends after school. I was in 8th grade when I took my first backpack trip into the Yosemite backcountry behind Half Dome. I have owned and worn out Pivetta, Lowa, Vasque, Asolo Sport Yukon, and Raichle boots. All old school leather boots with (Norwegian Welt Stitching) with the exception of my… Full review

Asolo Globaline Meridian

rated 5 of 5 stars I have put thousands of miles on in Asolo boots and will continue to use them in all conditions. I have several brands of mountaineering boots but seem to gravitate to my Asolos. I purchased these for winter backpacking and they serve me well in that case. Shoe fits like a glove. I would like to change the inserts to something other than what they come with however. Kept my feet warm in very cold conditions on long days in the snow and ice. Keeps feet dry and provides excellent ankle support. I… Full review

Lowa Hunter GTX EVO Extreme

rated 5 of 5 stars Best made hunting boots for extreme alpine conditions. Alaska: From the steepest cliffs to rock ledges and mountain slopes, I hunt critters that are at home in the most inaccessible reaches in our state: Alaska's Dall Sheep and Mountain Goat. As two of Alaska's best mountain climbers, in order for me to be successful I have to have the right boots to make the climb. These boots have helped me fill tags and freezers. I highly recommend these boots to anyone for a solid hunting boot! Full review
