Zion National Park. Water restricts one's options but few actually hike far from the beaten path; even few choose to back pack.
Joshua Tree National Park. There are places there very rarely visited by others; however, you must carry your water.
Denali National Park. Just plainly grand scenery on a grand scale.
Wrangell St EliasNational Park. Similar to Denali NP; however more remote due to lack of facilities and people, both in part because of the capricious nature of the weather there
Olympic National Park. Its temperate rain forest is like walking into a J. R. Tolken pastoral.
