Arthur Beale Erebus Boat Neck Pullover
The Arthur Beale Erebus Boat Neck Pullover is an old school heavyweight wool sweater for cold weather. It’s made from unbleached, undyed black Welsh mountain wool that still smells like sheep. With the lanolin not bleached out, the sweater smells like sheep, tends to repel water, and also feels like unprocessed wool—it’s pretty scratchy. This sweater’s weight and bulk would limit appeal for backpacking, but it’s very nice for cold weather day hikes either on its own or under a shell. … Full review

Outdoor Research Echo Hoodie
The very best long sleeve base layer out of many I've tried! I've meant to review this earlier as I have three full seasons using this shirt (actually now own three). I use this base layer summer through winter. It cheats all the important criteria of a base layer—lightweight, check; breathes well, check; dries quickly, check; AND has a hood. I use the hood all the time, in the summer to shade my neck/sides of my face and when cool to add a little warmth on the move. It utilizes a synthetic microgrid… Full review

Smartwool Merino 150 Pocket Tee
The Smartwool Merino 150 Pocket Tee is an active wear, base layer made up of 87% merino wool and 13% polyester. The high wool content maximizes one of nature's greatest insulator's ability to regulate temperature, ward off the multi-day stink, and manage moisture, while the polyester content adds durability and comfort. A lightweight wool tee allows for an endless amount of uses—from a thin sun shirt on hot summer days, to an excellent next to skin layer as part of a clothing system in winter. Full review

Outdoor Research Echo Hoodie
Outdoor Research’s Echo Hoodie is an ideal alternative to the grease and chemicals of sunscreen. Weighing in at 4 ounces, the Echo Hoodie provides SPF15 sun protection, with material that wicks sweat and keeps you comfortable when the sun is beating down on you. This hoodie and a ball cap completely negated my need to carry sunscreen (and bug spray) over the summer. The Echo Hoodie became my go-to shirt for all outdoor activities this summer. I hiked in it—a lot. I ran in it. I rappelled into… Full review

Appalachian Gear Company All-Paca Crew
The All-Paca Crew is a lightweight, medium thickness base-layer suitable for active wear or just lounging around the house during a lock-down. It's made from 100 percent Alpaca fiber. It fills my niche as a three-season hiking/sleep layer, to be paired with a t-shirt on cold mornings and with a shell when the wind or rain begins to cut. It offers a good warmth-to-weight ratio, breathability, and also a hefty resistance to odor. It closely matches the performance of similar technical base-layers… Full review

Banner & Oak Coyote T-shirt
I occasionally receive free products to test in exchange for reviews. With hot, humid summer days in the Midwest, choosing lighter, more breathable clothing is a must. Banner and Oak’s Coyote tee was perfect for strolling around the campground on a sunny afternoon. The graphic on the tee is what really caught my eye. Simple and nature-inspired, this shirt will be a go-to on my future camping adventures. Soft, comfy, and cool. This 60/40 cotton/polyester blend is perfect to toss on for a night… Full review

Free Fly Bamboo Lightweight Long Sleeve
No question, Free Fly fabric is superior to all synthetic when it comes to cooling, but the tailoring is not up to a snuff for a garment at this price. RE: Free Fly Bamboo lightweight long sleeve shirt, the sleeves and side seams are single needle with standing selvage, basic cheap t-shirt approach. When compared to the NRS silkweight poly shirt with all double needle flat seams and angel wing shoulders, Free Fly comes up way short. No question, Free Fly fabric is superior to all synthetic when… Full review

Smartwool Merino Sport 150 Hidden Pocket Tech Tee
The Smartwool Merino Sport 150 Hidden Pocket Tech Tee is a lightweight tee-shirt, made from a comfortably soft blend of merino wool and polyester (56% merino/44% polyester). This combination makes for a shirt that breathes well, stays cool, dries quickly, and doesn’t stink after a day of hiking. An ideal shirt for warm weather adventures. Unfortunately, the hidden pocket isn't very practical. Conditions: I’ve worn the Smartwool Merino Sport 150 Hidden Pocket Tech Tee regularly for two months,… Full review
