The drought probably played a crucial role in the success of the first recorded north to south winter traverse of the PCT.  The following link describes some of the gear these intrepid strollers packed along.

Thanks for sharing this. It's a good article, though a sad subject for your region. The pictures of Half Dome are especially illustrative.
