Never seen that...although I think I'll stick with a firestarter for weight purposes...that and if I find a good fishing hole the lemon would be gone by dinner!

It is theorized a similar approach (i.e. utilizing the chemistry of materials to generate electricity) was used by the ancient Chinese and Egyptians to facilitate electroplating metals (yes, they had plated gold four thousand years ago).  They even had ancient "batteries."  In fact modern batteries work using essentially the same principles.

Perhaps those of you who have piercings can conduct an experiment and see if you can make an electrical fire starter out of your own body :)

I have seen a lot of neat-o fire starting tricks with all sorts of weird things, as a Scout leader. But frankly, in this case, which am I more likely to carry, a lemon, wires (OK, maybe wires) and specific nails .... or extra dry matches or lighters?
