Elbrus Climbing

A couple of questions about Elbrus. I will be living in Europe next yr and may want to head north to climb the peak.

1. What is the usual season?
2. Local guides OK?
3. How many days would I need?
4. What airports/cities do you fly into?
5. Any other helpful info would be great.

1. The usual season is in summer (june-august), but check snow and ice conditions before you decide when to go, they vary a lot from one year to another.
2. Our guide was ok, but didn't speak much English...
3. You can climb the mountain in one day from the top of the ski lift (3800m), but you should calculate on about a week on the mountain.
4. It is best to fly to Mineral Nyye Vody, about 4 hrs by car from Elbrus.
5. Remember to bring along your crampons - you'll need them!
