Looking for a hike. 4 day 3 night max. Not too intimidated by elevation gains. Am very intimidated by trails where you aver inches away from falling off a cliff. I live in Ohio and we don't get forest fires here so I am clueless as to what affect there is on the beauty of the area after a fire as recent as 2012. Looking at Ruffneck peak? Soldier Lakes? Was originally looking at Sleeping Deer Trail but after talking with a ranger became intimidated by the drive to get to the trailhead! So, any info on that would be great too. Thank you so much in advance for info. ---Donna

You have chosen the state with perhaps the roughest, steepest backcountry in the US.  Look more carefully at some good guide books.  Steep drop offs and rough roads come with the territory.  There is no getting around it.
