Planning a bike ride to Sunset Crater and SP Crater, two of the most recent volcano's to have erupted here in north central Arizona. Sunset Crater erupted in 1100 AD and SP Crater erupted 71,000 years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S_P_Crater https://www.nps.gov/sucr/index.htm I took a drive with friends to Sunset Crater last Friday, but tomorrow I will be bicycling around it for a closer view or it and its lava beds. SP Crater I last saw in 2009 with some other friends. This time I will cycle to it, hike to its summit and also hike along its four mile long lava flow. Leaving early tomorrow morning catching a ride to the Sunset Crater road with a friend so I can be there for sunrise and spend the day exploring it. Then Saturday morning will ride to SP Crater and spend the day exploring it, then return back home on Sunday. I will be taking lots of pictures to share later.
Sunset Crater shot I took last Friday while in the monument
Aerial view of SP Crater.
I plan to hike to the top of SP and try to hike down into its crater and also hike along and over its lava flow.
