I've fallen way behind on my Trip Reports although Patman's new additions have inspired me to return to my abbreviated trip reports and here's the next one following my summer trip into the Pisgah National Forest.

This is Trip 158 and occurs in August 2014.  It starts in the Bald River Gorge wilderness of Tennessee.  For all pics go here---

For the Trail Journal go here---

Of course all of my backpacking trips begin at home with the home dehydrator---in this case it's 5 trays of tomatoes.

I meet backpacking buddy Will Skelton in the Bald River wilderness and we camp together on the creek.

Will Skelton hikes me thru the wilderness and we stop at the Cascades for a pic.

As I hike thru the Bald River area I run into these forest trail maintainers clearing some blowdowns.

Trip%20158%20109-M.jpg
I leave the Bald River trail and take the Cow Camp trail to Henderson Top trail #107 which takes me here to Skull Gap and a campsite.

As I backpack Henderson Top I run into another trail crew fixing the trail.

Trip%20158%20312-M.jpg
After doing the Cow Camp/Henderson Top loop I return to Bald River for a needed heatwave August flea dip in the healing waters of the Bald.

Trip%20158%20185-M.jpg
I finally leave the Bald River wilderness and get on the Kirkland Creek trail which climb up to State Line Ridge where I stop near Sandy Gap for this pic.

Trip%20158%20216-M.jpg
State Line Ridge is also the Benton MacKaye trail as shown here with the white diamond blazes.

Trip%20158%20095-M.jpg
As I finish State Line Ridge I drop down the Brookshire Creek trail and run into yet another trail working crew so I stop and help and take this pic.

Trip%20158%20162-M.jpg
Brookshire Creek takes me up and over Sugar Mt where I find these double diamonds denoting a turn in the trail.

Trip%20158%20351-M.jpg
A long day of backpacking gets me over Sugar Mt where I cross Tellico River and head up Sycamore Creek trail to Whiggs Meadow and over Haw Mt into the Snowbird backcountry where I run into the Mighty Patrick Patman coming out of Mitchell Lick.

Trip%20158%20369-M.jpg
I pass thru Mitchell Lick and descend on the Snowbird Creek trail where I find this neato campsite by the creek.

Trip%20158%20419-M.jpg
I don't spend much time in the Snowbirds and backtrack out and over Haw Mt and return to Whiggs Meadow for a night at 5,000 feet.

Trip%20158%20397-M.jpg
While on Whiggs Meadow I go to the pond for a swim to cool off in the August heat.

Trip%20158%20472-M.jpg
On my last day I leave the Whigg and hike 9 miles to the Green Cove community on Tellico River where I met my friends for a swim in the river.  So ends the trip.

Hey I remember that trip...need to get back to the 'birds for more exploration. I still haven't connected Kings Meadow to Mitchel Lick yet.

There's a Sierra Club meetup on Snowbird Creek on July 18-19 and so far it hasn't been canceled . . . so . . . there's a nice way to connect Whiggs Meadow to Haw and Snowbird Creek, as you well know.

Denis---This was a 19 day trip.  The BMT is a long trail and there are always sections which are overgrown.  Sgt Rock's new BMT Guide will be out in Sept 2015 I think as there's been a major reroute near Beech Gap to Tapoco, a goodly distance.

As a relative newcomer to TS, I have enjoyed reading back through some of your old reports and missed them over the last couple of months. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the input.  I think I'll slowly post more reports until I'm up to date and current.
