Arctic Lynx Maternity Activewear Midweight Leggings

rated 3.0 of 5 stars

These leggings are stylish, but more importantly are comfortable and functional during physical activity while pregnant. They are able to grow with you as you grow, without being too tight on the belly region. This product is best for comfort, functionality, and temperature regulation during physical activity both indoors and in moderate outdoor temperatures when worn as a single layer. I would recommend them to any active mother during pregnancy, especially runners, skiers, snowshoers, hikers, and those that do yoga/Pilates.

Pros

  • Belly panel is stretchy, comfy, and extra long
  • Flattering fit and fabric
  • Versatile for all types of physical activity, and can be layered under thicker pants

Cons

  • The sizing between the extra small and small leggings is odd, the extra smalls are uncomfortably tight through the legs, but the smalls run large through the hips. After several months of wearing these pants, they seem to stretch out in the hip region, and tend to slide/fall down while wearing.

Conditions:

I’ve tested the Arctic Lynx Maternity Activewear Leggings for a few months now and they have become a staple clothing item during my pregnancy. At the time of writing this review, I am 24 weeks pregnant. I wear them on a weekly basis to do everything from chase my one-year-old around, to Pilates workouts, jogging, hiking, yard work, and for comfort when traveling.

Fit and Comfort:

For reference I am 5'2" and typically wear a size 0-2 in jeans, but I found that the size Small in these high-performance maternity activewear midweight leggings from Arctic Lynx fits better than the extra-small size. The Small fits comfortably throughout the hips and thighs, but it does however run a bit tight throughout the lower leg region. I found this to be uncomfortable in the extra-small size, and therefore sized up which improved the issue. The leggings still tend to run tight on the region below the knees overall, but are comfortable throughout otherwise.

The activewear pants are long enough to cover the entire leg all the way to the ankle on virtually all varying heights of individuals, but they do run slightly long on my short stature. I have found that a simple once-over fold at the ankles works well for my desired length, and is comfortable. Or you could have them tailored for a custom fit if desired.

I have not had any issues with chafing, as these leggings are smooth on the skin and expand easily both during physical activity with the normal body changes associated with pregnancy. Some maternity leggings have a belly panel that is not long enough to adequately cover an expanding baby bump, which leads to the belly flap sliding down during everyday wear. That is both uncomfortable and undesirable when it occurs. However, Arctic Lynx has designed this belly flap to be extra long in order to accommodate all belly sizes as your baby grows and develops. The belly flap is long enough to extend up to the bust line if desired.

Construction, Durability and Fabric Performance:

The activewear maternity leggings are constructed of a spandex-polyester midweight blend that has a smooth surface that doesn’t pill or catch on other surfaces. They are a comfortable yet snug fit without being too tight or causing indentations along the waistline. They wick moisture efficiently, and dry quickly.

Layering:

Tall socks fit well overtop of the leggings, and while I have not yet utilized the pants as a base layer, I am confident that they would be moisture wicking and extremely comfortable as a base layer under ski pants and/or snow pants. While other types of legging fabrics can cause friction when used as a base layer, these Arctic Lynx pants are quite smooth, and would easily permit other fabrics to glide over without causing them to ride up or fall down.

Recommendation:

Overall I am impressed at the attention to detail that Arctic Lynx took when designing these high-quality leggings. They are comfortable, highly functional, stylish, and pair wonderfully with the Artic Lynx Maternity midweight T-shirt I also tested (see below). I would recommend them to any active mother during pregnancy.
