Berghaus Spartan 60

rated 4.0 of 5 stars
photo: Berghaus Spartan 60 weekend pack (50-69l)

Rugged and flexible pack. A bit heavy for lightweight adventures.

Pros

  • Very rugged
  • Lots of loops and molle attachment points
  • Not too tacticool for civilian use
  • Great for hunting

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Side pockets not included (extra purchase)

Was looking for a flexible sturdy backpack which could be used for carrying extra gear like rifle, skis, snowshoes, packraft, and so on. Got a great deal on the Spartan 60 litre. It looks like it's tailored for military use but it's not too tacticool for recreational use.

The pack is made with Berghaus mmps system for adding side pockets. The side pockets are as sturdy as the backpack and would highly recommend them. They can be used separately as a small backpack. The pack's carrying system is not length adjustable, but the pack comes in four sizes. It's important to be aware of this if ordering online.

The carry system is bombproof, but maybe not refined like other hiking packs. The fabric is stiff and this is the only pack I have used which required a "break in" like a leather hiking boot.
