I have a pair of Chaco Canyonland Mid-Event hiking boots and they're the best I've ever worn, hands down. A key advantage is the non-rigid sole. While providing good traction, the sole gives a little so that if you step on a small stone it will press into the sole and not roll under your foot as would happen with a rigid-soled boot. Plus the Chacos are fantastically comfortable and provide good support.
