Summary

This hat offered the perfect mix of light weight, packability, and function. It offered cool shade, 50+ UV protection, and a removable chin strap that was needed in several situations.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to pack
  • UV protection of 50+

Cons

  • Not particularly stylish

I received this Chaos Summit Boonie Hat as a trial and was very pleased, overall, with its performance. It is very lightweight and travels well as it requires no space and can be rolled or folded with no negative side.

I wore this hat while hiking around Mont Blanc in France and Italy last month. This included hiking at over 11,000 feet on a glacier. The removable chin strap was important as the winds in some locations would have certainly blown it off of my head.

It is perfect for hot weather as the brim provided 360 degree shade, 50+ UV protection and was highly breathable.

It has a drawstring that allows it to be adjusted exactly to your needs. I had a size XL in Blue Steel color, although there are five color choices available. Not sure of its water resistance as I did not wear it in the rain, but it is not a rain hat.
