Cotopaxi Fuego Down Hooded Jacket
My favorite cold weather puffy. I love this puffy so much, I bought two of them in the last 5 years! They are super warm, lightweight and packs down small into a zipper pocket on inside of jacket.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Warm
- Packs into its own pocket
- Multiple color options
- 4 pockets
- Scuba hood
Cons
- Price $$$
I bought the Fuego Down Jacket about three years ago. I bought a different Fuego Down LT jacket from Cotopaxi a couple years prior that in my opinion is a better quality jacket with a higher down fill and lighter. It isn't available anymore on their website. I will review that one later in a separate post.
I love all the color options available, but settled for a color pattern that was the best deal at the time. Cotopaxi is very expensive, but other outdoor gear websites usually have better deals on this puffy, especially off season! My "go-to" websites for deals year round are www.campsaver.com and www.backcountry.com; I purchased mine from campsaver.

The puffy does layer well with other clothing, whether I have multiple layers underneath or a rain jacket over it. It is a down jacket so if it rains, I have a rain coat to wear over it.
I wear this jacket on all my trips to the Sierras. It's great for when the temperatures dip a little bit, like 50 degrees F. I do not sweat in this jacket when I am wearing it in temperatures below 55 degrees F. It also keeps me warm enough while wearing only 1 layer underneath (Smartwool Classic Thermal Merino Crew Baselayer), when it is between 35-45 degrees F.
This jacket is actually great year round. I live in Florida, and believe it or not, it's cold in the winter here, (not as cold as where I grew up in Connecticut). Last year, Brooksville had freezing temperatures. I find that I grab this coat in the mornings around November through March. I also bring it to the shop with me on occasion because the AC gets a little too cold at times.
The fit is Regular, and true to size. I could wear a small but then I would not have room for more than one shirt underneath it. I bought this jacket in a Medium, so I could wear multiple layers underneath. There are only two elastic drawstrings on this jacket located at the bottom of the jacket. Shown below.
