I bought these boots over 10 years ago and have hiked all over in every imaginable condition. These are without a doubt the best boots I have ever owned. You will never buy another pair of boots, because with proper care they will outlast you!
Comfortable, strong, durable. These boots are everything that a hiking boot should be. Total satisfaction from this veteran hiker.

I am mourning the loss (theft) of my 20-year-old Mountain Lights. We had been up Mt. Whitney, Tyndall, San Jacinto and all over the Sierras when I retired them to everyday use around my property and my daily short hikes, as well as my daily motorcycle boots.
Best darn boot ever made. Comfortable, waterproof, tough, and wear like iron.
Break-in Period: Short
Price Paid: $160
I had looked for a pair of classic backpacking boots for years and knew I had found them when I first laid my eyes on these Danner Mountain Lights. They are everything you could hope for in a genuine classic. I hope Danner continues to make these for years to come.

I've had my Mountain Lights for 11 or 12 years and I can't imagine outdoor activities without them. They've been on two trips to Alaska, the mountains in Idaho twice, and countless excursions nearer to my home in Arizona. They are a little on the heavy side, but what rugged performers.
I've hiked what seems like a million miles in them, been snowshoeing a few times, and they seem indestructable. They always clean up nice with Danner boot treatment, and they never have leaked. Great product.
Materials: Leather with Gore-tex liners
Use: Everywhere, on and off trail
Break-in Period: minimal
Price Paid: $130
This is the best boot I have found. I made this purchase after I bought a new pair of Asolos that I cannot get to wear comfortable. The Asolos were hot and clunkie plastic things; the Danners are a dream after them. Danner is great boot for any kind of place if you can find them.
Materials: leather gore tex
Break-in Period: 1 day
Price Paid: on sale 1/2 price
I have enjoyed these boots thoroughly. They have broken in nicely and are comfortable as can be. And they keep your feet dry as a bone too. Never blistered or even hot spotted after wearing them for a week and then going on a trip wih them.
Use: rough trail w/ pack
Break-in Period: very short
Price Paid: $200
What a great boot! They work well with moderate and heavy loads, and on and off trail. Use the Danner boot dressing for waterproofing and softening the leather. Incidentally, I threw my La Sportiva Makalus in the trashcan—after 200 miles on the trail. My ankles still blistered in these boots.
If you want to climb mountains, try the Danner Siskiyou.
Use: off trail/rough trail
Break-in Period: minimal
Weight: 3.5 lbs
Price Paid: $100 at factory outlet in portland, oregon. they are cosmetic blems
I got these boots 4 years ago. I've been nothing but pleased with them since. They were comfortable right out of the box (I have very tough feet, though, so there may actually be some break-in period reqd.) and have held up quite well.
They are a bit more flexible than I expected, but still very solid. The stitched sole makes resoling a snap (I just did this for the first time---replaced those shallow lugs with deep lug Vibrams). Good for hiking and backpacking with moderate to heavy loads (the most I've carried with them is around 65 lbs.). I'm not sure if they make this exact model anymore. The current model is the Mt.Light II, which is exactly the same except for the color,so far as I can tell.
Use: rough/off trail with moderate to heavy load
Break-in Period: none
Weight: ?4 lbs?
