Eddie Bauer Solarfoil UPF Pullover Hoodie

Lightweight sun hoodie that's comfy and breathes well.
Pros
- Inexpensive (at Costco)
- Lightweight (7.6 oz for medium)
- Flat seams
- Thumbloops
- Elastic on hood and sleeves keep things in place
- SPF 50
Cons
- Lighter options exist
- Polyester pulls and snags easily
- Limited colors
I saw these at my local Costco for $12.99 USD, so I decided to pick up two.
I've been on a couple hikes and backpacks with them and so far they have been great. At 10,000' in the Uintahs, they helped keep both the sun and mosquitoes at bay. On strenuous hikes, they did breath, wick and dry fast.
The elastic on the hood seam is very good at keeping the hood in place during winds. And same with the thumb hole loops on the sleeves.

The material is heavier (approximately 150 GSM (4.42oz) fabric weight) than the OR Echo, so there is a weight penalty. My medium came in at 7.6 oz. However, the Echo is only spf 15 vs the Eddie Bauer claims spf 50. So the heavier fabric is doing some sun blocking.

The polyester is soft and many of the seams are flat. So the shirt is very comfortable. However, as with all poly knits, they will snag and pull. I frequently get piling happening in the shoulders where my pack straps rub. So far with 36 miles on the one, I have not noticed any wear.
Overall a great sun hoodie and a good price if you have a Costco membership.
