EMS Down Under 5

What a piece of crap. I have owned a number of EMS private label gear, and have usually been solidly satisfied.

I used this during at the colder beginning and end of my AT thru-hike last year, and shivered all night when it got below 25dF.

Granted, I was in an open shelter or under an open tarp, but my 20dF EMS MM20 was warmer. (see review)

The down does seem to be very poor quality. I have owned a number of down items over the years (many with not even "550" down" and this bag lost its loft EXTREMELY rapidly -- faster than cheap synthetic. When I gave it away it was thinner than any of my 20s.

I appreciated the simple design and plain nylon, to keep the price low, but I think the cheesy outer nylon allowed a lot of convective heat loss.

I gave this bag away to a buddy for graduation (good thing he does not have Web access so he can't see this) who didn't have a 3-season bag.

A cheap winter down bag looks too good to be true and mine was.

Warm, oh yes, but the key things I disliked were:

It's very narrow. It also seems the down was not of great quality. The nylon outer layer is very thin and does not prevent any moisture from getting into the prescious insides.

My suggestion, get it for the price and for the comfort of how good down feels, but always avoid wet situations. I am on my second.
