Skule Top 26

I wanted something simple and streamlined to use as a carry-on but also be capable on the trail or a bike ride. So many packs this size come with extra hip belt pockets and way too many spots for me to remember where I put it! I also like that it has a bonafide lid. It has one small interior pocket and a sleeve that holds a laptop or bladder (has a hanger) if you're packing one.

Interior—One big space!
All the extra stuff on the hip belt is ok for a pack that never goes off trail and I have one of those. The Skule has removable hip and sternum straps which I like because they always seem like they are hanging down and getting caught somewhere. The Skule can do double duty. And because the straps are small, they could be carried if you'll want them to go walking.

There is a nice pocket on the lid that can hold a map, small snack, phone, sunscreen, stuff like that that you'll want quick access to. It's small but a few items will fit just fine. It'll carry my dopp bag for plane rides. It opens and closes with the tug of a tab or cord, respectively. That seems to be the thing now. No more trying to squeeze that tiny cord lock with gloves on.

Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for. Fjallraven says the pack is water resistant but for the size of a lemon I can toss in a cover just in case. I'll have an opportunity to put it through its paces soon and if there's any news, I'll update the review. Right now, this fills a need for me and I'm excited to get busy using it. The workmanship is top notch and the materials are durable so I anticipate being able to pass this on when I have to hang up the boots. I think if you're looking for simple...this should definitely be on your short list.

Background

First pack was a pre-hip belt Kelty external back in 1972. Still one of the best ever!
