Kelty Solstice 2

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Solstice 2 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best three-season tents for 2024.

I am on my second tent of this design. First one was the Domolite 2 and that one I wore out from too many camping trips! This is one of the best tents I have ever owned. Exceptionally easy to set up, even in 40mph winds. Well ventilated, even with rain fly on and cinched down. And the best thing of all is the WONDERFUL view of the stars through the no-see-um roof panel. Rain fly goes on in a snap (literally). Stayed up sturdy, dry AND comfortable through severe T-storms where every other tent in the campground had either blown down/over or leaked. Stays cool in 110f in Arizona or 95f and heavy humidity in southeast Texas. Where others in my group miserably sweated the night away in their tents I had to cover up in mine!

Pitched properly the tent is good in "light" winter situations despite the 3 season rating. Used it at the Grand Canyon for 2 weeks in November (10f at night & light snows) and was snug as a bug.

I have "sold" 5 of these tents to friends who have seen just how sturdy and cool this tent is. Would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a good light car camping tent. I have taken it backpacking on short, easy trips where water was readily available. Would not recommend it for long trips or desert trips where weight truly becomes a factor.

I liked the tent. You can sit up in it. I use it for one person. After one year of indoor use with a total of two setups and one take-down, one of the aluminum poles broke in the middle of the night by itself—$129.99.

Quite an excellent tent for anyone who prefers to stargaze, yet doens't prefer to camp without a tent. A full ceiling panel allows you to have a full view overhead. The "so-see-um" mesh is tougher than it looks. A very sturdy tent that has kept out all the elements even on the most rainy days. A great tent in all conditions except the bitter cold of winter... unless your like my roomate, who's one crazy camper.
