I just got the L.L Bean Winter Walker 16 snowshoes for my 2-year-old son. I must say I am very impressed with the make, binding setup and size.

The binding setup lets you adjust it to three different setting. My son is in a size 7 boot and the smallest setting fits perfect.

The size of the snowshoe is smaller then most other kids snowshoes but still will hold up to 60lb.The smaller size was great for my son was able to walk in them with little change in his stance.

If you are looking for a snowshoe to start a young kid in winter walks this is the best one I have found.

Price Paid: $39.99

Cheap kids snowshoes that miss the mark for any serious snowshoeing with children.

Pros

  • Beefy design
  • Price

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Difficult straps
  • Non-aggressive crampon slips on ice
  • Limited range of toe-flex

Our kids used these when they were 3 and 4 and they were cumbersome. The thick aluminum "crampon" along the front failed to really bite into any substantial ice and they have limited toe flexibility. This is due to having a polymer covered 1 inch Nylon webbing as the rotation point instead of a metal pin or bearing.

We switched to the Tubbs Flex Jr's and have been much happier.

Background

Extensive family winter hiking in the NY Catskills and Adirondacks as well as the Swiss and German Alps.
