I really enjoy the Lafuma Race 28 pack. I like to have a pack for each hobby I like to do and unfortunately like snowboarding and skiing.

As far as backcountry skiing goes, this is a great versatile pack. It is not top of the line by any means, but is rather a great value (bought on steepandcheap.com, so it was a steal of a deal anyways). It has everything necessary for backcountry skiing and then some. Ice axe loops, ski loops, pole attachments, compression straps, mesh pockets, bladder pouch, I love the vented panel for your back, and comfy shoulder and waist straps.

No complaints here, but I have never really tested its limits. Things I would mention is that is is marked "water resistant", which tends to mean that if you are in any substantial amount of precipitation, it won't keep your stuff totally dry.

Design: top loading
Size: 28 liters
Number of Pockets: One main pouch, bladder pouch, top cover pouch, small valuables pouch. Two external mesh pockets.
Max. Load Carried: About 10 pounds
