Not that anyone cares at this point, but I've always enjoyed my Madden Henry pack. It's rugged, simplistic, practical, and at over 6000 cu/in practically serves as a bivy. No bells or whistles required since my purchase in 1995-6?. Full review
I have a couple of Madden packs that I bought directly from Madden in the late 1970's. One is the rucksack-sized Alpine, the other is a monster expedition sized pack. They are both great, have stood up to years of hard use and poor care. Madden stuff tended to be bombproof, durable, simple, and maybe a little heavy -- just right for hard use. Madden also made what has always seemed to me to be the best-designed Gore-tex mountain parka ever made. The 70's era Gore-tex is definitely not up to modern… Full review
I bought one of these fanny packs in 1989 and I would not be buying another one now, except after 19 years, the zipper is busted. The Cordura fabric is so tough. It still looks new. I have used this pack mountaineering, beach camping, mountain biking, fishing, Grateful Dead concerts, and much more. It is the best you can buy. Full review
This is the best dayhiking backpack that has ever been made, or will ever be made. You just wish you had one of these, because they don't make 'em any more. Well I have used mine for over 5 years and 2000 miles. When I eventually wear mine out (difficult to do) I will use my second one (I'm glad I was smart enough to acquire 2 while they lasted) until it wears out (probably 20 years from now). They don't make 'em like this anymore - all lightweight, specialized, and costly now. I miss the days when… Full review
I have owned several Maddens over the years. They have all been excellent packs so when I saw this one at Sierra Trading Post for $79 I jumped on it. It has proven to be a trusty travel companion. It is large enough for me to travel with for months on end. Most recently I took a 3 week West Coast trip and this pack was both comfortable and convenient. The zip off day pack is a wonderful carry on size and the small top pocket is just the right size for those small items that need to be found quickly. Full review
Madden Equipment relaunched in 2014 after a 10-year hiatus. Each pack is handmade by a single sewer in Madden's original Colorado factory, with the original team, original patterns, and even some of the original sewing machines.
