Weighing just 8 ounces per shoe you hardly feel like you are wearing a shoe at all. The soles feature Merrell's M select grip which has performed well in wet and dry trail conditions.

The 5mm lugged soles are close enough together for good traction while being far enough apart that they don't load up with mud. I found the lugs soft enough to give a good grip on rocks even when wet. Both the toe and heel have nice TPU ( thermoplastic polyurethane) protectors to fend off any trail nasties. Two drainage holes are provided on each side of the arch should the Crush go for a swim.

A feature I feel will help the shoe perform longer is the clear ventilated TPU that covers most of the mesh uppers. As we all know the mesh is the most fragile part of any running shoe. The entire ankle area, as well as the tongue, is nicely padded and reflective accents provide visibility during night use .

A size 9 fit my slightly wide foot well, although the medium width caused me to have to wear thin socks in order to have adequate wiggle room for my toes. The footbed of EVA is integrated into the shoe which for trail running provides better support but for hikers who would like to change out the foot bed it could be an issue.

I used the Merrell All Out Crush for hiking, as I am not much of as trail runner. I really liked the fit for day hiking and the Merrell Trail Protect pads under my feet did an excellent job of keeping the bottoms from getting beat up on rough trails. Those people looking for a super soft footbed will be disappointed but you can't beat the support they offer. The soles are holding up well so it will be interesting to see how many miles I can put on these shoes.

These trail running shoes are vegan-friendly, no animal products are used in their manufacture.
