Retailers' Descriptions

Here's what other sites are saying:

The Montrail Vitesse Trail Running Shoe is a hardcore shoe whose unique design has earned it a rabid following amongst adventure racers, ultra-marathoners, and runners who don't care much for pavement. The most immediately noticeable thing about the Vitesse is its form-fitting internal bootie. Simply put, the Vitesse feels like a sock when you slip it on, with maximum shoe to foot contact for comfort and control. It's a sock with teeth though. Luggy tread on a stiff sole protects your feet from rocks and debris, with an extra lug outside your instep to add extra protection against ankle roll. Mesh-vented uppers make for great breathability and work with the hydrophobic uppers to dry fast on the fly. No quarter asked and none given for weather or trail conditions with the Vitesse.

Unless you run exclusively on asphalt and cinder, crosstraining shoes are not necessarily trail training shoes. Trails serve up a smorgasbord of tough and unyielding terrain obstacles that slice, dice and puree gym shoes for early appetizers. That's why the Montrail Vitesse resembles a crosstraining shoe only in functionality. Enhanced lateral outriggers, TerraFlex forefoot plates and reinforced toe box shields stabilize, protect and shield your feet and ankles from both anticipated and unexpected obstructions. The Vitesse is built for racing, biking, hiking and training in unforgiving terrain. Now you can run down the beaten path without fearing that it will beat you.

The Montrail Vitesse is designed for serious trail running, but what makes it a great trail running shoe, also makes it a comfortable all-around sport shoe - lightweight, protective, supportive, and comfortable. Flexible forefoot protection to guard against the painful intrusion of sharp rocks and roots. Hydrophobic (“water-hating”) upper and nylon mesh will not stay wet and it ventilates extremely well. Reinforced toe box protects toes from accidental kicking of rocks. Utilizes Montrail’s exclusive TGV Footbed System. The Vitesse is the standard that all other trail running shoes are measured and it is very popular with ultra runners.
