New Balance 1400DB

rated 5.0 of 5 stars
photo: New Balance 1400DB hiking boot

High top leather hiking shoe. As cushioned as a HOKA.

Pros

  • leather
  • highly cushioned
  • big toebox
  • locked in heel
  • waterproof
  • light

Cons

  • sole is slick

Normally wear a 12 or 12 wide ASICS, 12 EE Oboz. These fit me in a 11.5. They come in widths; I think mine are the narrowest. Made in Vietnam 10/2022.

These are every bit as cushioned as my Hoka hiking boots but fit me much better, primarily because the heel is narrow and the toe box is wide.

The biggest issue is the sole. It is too smooth to keep the shoe from slipping  on a steep path. DB stands for dark brown.

Background

Oboz, Hoka, ASICS, Lowa. Been using them to walk the dog for about 6 months. Perfect because they are light and comfy and easy to hose off without getting socks wet.
