Have just returned from a trip to India on my first outing with this bag and I was really pleased with it. It did just what I wanted, combining the usefulness of a rucksack but also the ease of packing of a suitcase. It was very light and compact.

One thing I hadn't picked up from the reviews I'd read elsewhere was a useful feature of the detachable day pack - it zips up from the back so that it's completely secure when attached to the main pack. This has the consequence that it's also very secure when used as a daypack as you can't get into it without taking it off your back. While I thought at the beginning that might be a bit annoying I actually appreciated the security.

There is a capacious top pocket for stuff you frequently need as well as side pockets to stuff the odd water bottle/pair of gloves in. It was also really useful that you could access the main pack when the day pack was attached. The attachment was also very strong, with a zip as well as clips.

I only had a couple of reservations. One is that I'm not sure how good it would be for long treks - it didn't feel that comfortable on my back. Another is that it was a shame that there was not a top pocket on the main pack. The side pockets were rather small so it wouldn't be that useful without the detachable day-pack.

But I'm very happy with my purchase - it felt very strong and easy to carry.
