BlueField Emergency Tarp

rated 3.5 of 5 stars
photo: BlueField Emergency Tarp tarp/shelter

A lightweight simple tarp tough enough for general use. Suitable for one person, it measures 8 ft 6 in x 5 ft.

Pros

  • Incredibly low cost
  • Well made
  • Multiple colours
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Short for long people

This is advertised as an emergency one-person tarp sturdy enough for multiple times of use. Made from a light polyester PU proofed to 3000 hydrostatic head with six brass grommets and a zip-up carry bag with ample room for guy lines (not supplied).

At 8 ft 6 in X 5 ft it is just enough to cover you with careful site selection and a tight pitch. My setup with six guy lines and eight carbon fibre stakes weighs a mere 390 g (12 oz), which for shelter is pretty darn good.

I have found that the best pitches are the half pyramid and the mushroom for real rain in more exposed sites. I am 5 ft 9 in and have used this in our NZ winter in lowland conditions and find it comfortable sized. I can even cook in the half pyramid. At this price, if it were to only last one season it is still a very good buy.
