Porlex Mini Stainless Steel Coffee Grinder

A simple bit of human powered kit that doesn't take a lot of effort to use, and gives you fresh ground coffee anywhere in the world.
Pros
- Small
- Lightweight
- Variable grind settings for different brewing gear
Cons
- An extra thing to carry
OK, so it´s not for everyone, but this hand grinder is always in my kit.
Packing this grinder does mean taking one more piece of kit, but when you bear in mind the handle from the grinder detaches and clips to the side, and that the grinder fits inside some coffee plungers or the Aeropress (you have to stow the handle separately), it isn't such an inconvenience—even if you do have to find some extra room for it, it is a little smaller than a 300g pot of table salt.
The stainless steel construction means it is pretty much bomb-proof, and it breaks down for cleaning (which you don't have to be too strict about). The adjustable grind settings also mean it can grind for plungers, pour-throughs, drips, percolators, or whatever else you happen to have in your backpack/panniers.
It varies with method, but a full load of ground beans will give me 1 or 2 good strength, sizeable cups of coffee, or 3 or 4 more modest coffees. And it's no trouble at all to chew through a full hopper of beans.
As far as durability goes, I have taken this on month-long trips, weekend trips, and use it pretty much every day at home as well, and it is still as solid as it was when it was new.
So if you are a bit of a coffee fiend then this really would go well in you pack, especially if you're already taking a plunger or other brewer anyway.
Also I did pay a little over the odds for mine, but I live in New Zealand where we have to pay a little over the odds for most things.
