A great 3-season, any-weather hat.

Pros

  • Warm
  • Great fit
  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • A tad short (I prefer it this way personally)

The Outdoor Research Flurry Beanie was my go-to hat on a trip literally around the entire country. 6,500 driving and hiking miles later this is still my go-to. I rarely take it off unless I am in the office or it's summer time.

This hat is moisture wicking, so it can be used in warmer weather and is great while being active. The "Flatlock Seam Construction" is great because you can't see the seams, they don't protrude off your head, and the inner fleece liner does not separate or move from the outer shell. It also eliminates any abrasion points on the hat as well, and makes for a fitted style more so than a baggy one.

The hat is built of 65% polyester, 25% wool and 10% nylon. It weighs in at just 1.9 ounces and can easily fit in the pocket of your pants or coat when the sun comes out. It's comfortable against my ears and forehead and retains great heat.

I have used this out in the rain, and although it could serve as a sponge, it does hold in heat great even when wet.

This hat is fairly inexpensive for high quality beanies running on average $19.95. I have seen them on sale for a few dollars less and a few dollars more as well.

The only complaint that I hear on this hat, is that it is not very deep so the bottom or your ears are probably going to be exposed. I have a "shorter" depth in hats and even my ears show a bit. I personally like this however because It does not impede my hearing, and I don't like having any extra on top of my head. I prefer a hat to sit flush to the top of my head while still allowing me to see and hear. Generally my collar covers the bottom of my ears anyhow, but I could see where this would bother some in freezing temperatures.

Overall I really love this hat. Beanie wise, it's the best fit and quality I have personally owned. The style is great, and I can wear it in the woods or out on the town. I highly suggest this beanie.
