Outdoor Research Men's PL 400 Gloves

Ignoring OR's description, these gloves are great for cool weather. They ARE NOT 'Toasty warm in the bitter cold' as a liner. This glove seems to be designed as a glove, not as a liner. Great coupled with a thin liner inside these gloves will keep you warm to about 40°F-ish. Inexpensive, these gloves are best used for day-to-day activities where I'm not worries about fire embers, etc.

Not the PL 400! Yes. These gloves are really a great value for their not-intended purpose. OR's website is misleading in their description IMO. 'Toasty warm in the bitter cold' is NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!

Don't get me wrong, these gloves are great, but not made for the purpose of cold, cold weather, nor are they a real glove liner. For these to be effective livers, you would need a BIG oversized lobster glove or mitten. With the addition of silicone fingers & palms, these gloves as a liner make a very uncomfortable mate inside a winter glove.

I understand the intent is to prevent glove liner slippage, but I personally can't work with Michelin Man hands. Using as a glove outer however, I have been very happy with using these gloves during spring and fall with temperatures dipping to 40°F-ish, and adding a thin liner to get about another few °'s out of them.

My gloves are about four years old, and after several years I can't imagine that the glove would totally change its design model. I do love these gloves... just don't expect winter or high end features out of a glove that's under $50. 

My hand size is a Large (long-ish fingers), and the OR L fits true to size. These gloves are very comfortable, lots of flexibility for decent dexterity. I personally find fleece lined glove inners will really tear open any hang nails. It's those paper-cut type pains that really get to me... The outer material is not tight to the finger, so they are not the most nimble of gloves, nor was the design intent.

The cuff is not very long, but this will never be a concern when using a properly fitting jacket. You will keep dry in a light rain, I would rate the water resistance as average. Snow (assuming its not really wet snow) will not easily absorb into the glove, which is a plus for a glove liner (that should be a glove). Breathability would also be considered average, but the synthetic fleece does a good job lifting the sweat from skin. 

I have learned to never trust the little clips other than off season storage, but they can be handy. I'd hate to look like MJ on the trail with only one glove. 

Note that size L fits well with and without liners. 

Overall durability has been pretty good for several years of use. Ember burns, cracked texturized palms & fingertips are expected from real use. The outer layer of these gloves otherwise has been very resilient holding up against briars, sticks, stones, and firewood. 

The silicone/rubberized material has begun to crack (after about two years) and lose its tackiness.

As with my experience with OR products, I think these gloves are great. I have to keep my rating to three stars only because these gloves are listed as liners, not as three season gloves. An inexpensive glove has unlimited uses when it comes to getting the job done, being getting around town, or doing chores around the campsite!

Super comfy. I wear them on their own until it get really cold, then I layer my BD Mercury Mitts over them.
