Ozark Trail 9 x 9 First-Up Tent

rated 4.5 of 5 stars

The 9 x 9 First-Up Tent has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best tents and shelters for 2024.

I bought this tent on clearance at WalMart a few years ago. I love my tent! It doesn't leak, it has held up in severe storms, and it takes all of 3 minutes to set it up, and another 5 to put the rain fly on. I have had MANY tents (3 stay at home while I use this one), and the Ozark First-up is a definite keeper! I didn't expect much... bought it for its entertainment value, really. What a surprise. A little on the small side, but fine for two adults. In the beginning, the spring-loaded mechanism is very tight... takes SEVERAL uses to break it in. Might need some help the first couple of uses to get the mechanism pulled down into place.

I wish I could find this tent in a 12' x 12' model!!! I highly advise that a tarp be used under this (and any other) tent, as that's where most water will get in... although this one hasn't leaked. I have had a drop or two of water get through the floor in HEAVY downpours with blowing winds, but not in normal rain showers. Great tent for a beginner or someone who likes to travel light.

Design: 3-season freestanding instant dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: One piece design that goes up in minutes!
Weight: 10 lbs.
Price Paid: $40

This is the best family tent ever! Why would they discontinue it!!!!!!

Pros

  • Fast
  • Easy
  • Secure
  • It is just the right size and you can use the top canopy for other purposes.

Cons

  • They discontinued it - WHY?

The setup is the easiest ever. The extra support features make sure everything is secure. It can withstand the weather unlike other tents. It is a very nice easy way for a family that does not have a lot to pull from to utilize money with dual purpose.

PLEASE! PLEASE! BRING IT BACK. We have used ours many times for all kinds of functions. I was looking for another as a back up when I found out that you are not making them any longer — You need to bring them back.  They are awesome!!!!

I have had this tent now for 2 years. Probably 9 uses every year I have had it. So for 18 uses this tent is still going strong. Perhaps the people who have had this tent just were not patient enough or something cause I have had no complaints on the durability of this tent.

The reason why I gave it 4 and not 5 is it says 4-5 people but really is best for just 2 and perhaps an infant. Also the sides of the tent are netted mesh so it get a bit nippy in the tent at night wish they had made a closing window for those.

Overall I LOVE this tent for not struggling with poles and having to bend over a lot to setup this thing when I go up before my husband to the campsite. Very easy setup!

I bought one of these tents in 2007.

Pros

  • Easy up and down

Cons

  • None as far as I'm concerned

Great tent. I bought this from Walmart. Took it to Lake Anna for camping at night, fishing all day for three days. The first night we had a bad storm (wind, rain, lightning) so bad we had to get in truck and wait it out.

When it was over the tent was wet inside but withstood all that. I still use it and wish I could find another.

Excellent tent for setting up quickly -- doesn't take too long to take down either.

Thought it was the best tent ever until we used it with a decent wind blowing. The problem I had was that the hinges in the poles kept unlocking and the tent would collapse in on us until the wind died down a bit and we could push it back out. Recently we had a hinge break with a slight snow....

Like I said it can be an excellent tent for a fair weather camper, but does not last in adverse weather.

This is the best tent ever. Why did you quit making it? Hope you start this line up again.

Pros

  • Easy to put up
  • Dry floor
  • Roomy

The pockets on the inside of the tent are a great idea. The electrical cord pass through is another good idea. Please start making these again, please.

This is a great tent. My sister bought one right after she saw mine. I have fellow campers that would love to buy one, but for some reason I can't find one anywhere. I would like to buy another one for myself as a back up. This is my third season of using it and it's getting to be on its last leg.

If anyone knows where I can get one please let me know. I don't know why that took this wonderful tent off the shelves.

Thanks,
Dennis

I had some tents before, but when I was looking for a new one, I saw this on sale and take it to home. Was interesting to have one tent to get up in minutes, and when my family and me were to camp, everybody were happy to have the tent up on minutes, when we return I went to buy another and we still using both, excellent construction. My only complaint is when I need to get in to the bag, but not is a big problem.

I love the way the tent is easy to pop up and take down. I don't like it when the wind is blowing hard.I am planning on taking it camping again. If you need to find a tent like it, I noticed that KMart carries a First Up tent in a different name for around $80.

I gave it a 4 because I own one, but when the wind blows it just keeps falling down. One of the rods broke due to the wind blowing it down. Is there any way we can replace the rods?
