Can't say about the battery life because I just demoed this for a night adventure. But, the halogen lamp was worthless to me.

I thought the lower leds allowed for a sharper night image. I also thought that there should be a third strap going overhead so the thing doesn't sag down the head while running.

On the plus side the little leds were bright, the thing is water resistant, and has good bat life if you don't use the halogen which you shouldn't anyways. Took it back.

The halogen light is only bright for a few minutes, I am sure that's why the next gen has 4 batts. LEDs work forever. I only change the batts so they are fresh for a hike. Petzl says not to use lithium batts but  I tried them and the halogen worked hours longer and was brighter than before.

This is also a pretty heavy light and has stood up to some major abuse.

Price Paid: $54.95

I bought this headlamp for the brightness it was supposed to offer with the initial headlamp. It has no distance and the l.e.d. actually seems brighter. The headlamp put out a very dull, yellow beam with no distance.

It does have great battery life and I haven't had a single malfunction.
