Salomon Men's Pro Trek 7
The Men's Pro Trek 7 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.
In the U.K. these boots are classed as "4 Season" i.e. they can take a crampon for ice-walking up in the mountains. I have an older pair which have day-glo attachment points for crampons--really cool! Without a doubt, they are the best boots I have ever used. Fantastic.
Materials: Nu-buck uppers
Use: 4 Season
Break-in Period: None
Weight: Unknown
Price Paid: £109
The best boots I've ever owned. Breaking time was zero and they lasted me through 2 tree-planting seasons. For the non-planters out there, that's twice as much as a normal "heavy" backpacking boot. Very tough and comfy, a perfect balance of strength and weight.
Materials: suede
Use: rough trails, rocky bushwacks, heavy pack
Break-in Period: zero
Price Paid: 130$
Very disappointed!!
Had my Salomons for a few years, but only done about 20 days of hiking in them and the soles came apart from the upper. I'll never buy another pair of Salomons again.
