Scarpa Cadore

rated 3.0 of 5 stars

The Cadore has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

These Scarpa's are black and made out of full grain leather. Due to the full grain leather there was a break in period required, as the boot "pinches" in the toe area when new. Once broken in this problem disappeared.

These boots are also goretex lined, but unfortunatly one of the seams for the liner runs up the back of the heel. This seam has caused me some discomfort and blisters on my first couple of hikes. The boots are waterproof though, as standing in ankle deep water proven.

The tongues tend to fall to one side or another.

Pluses:

1) Waterproof

2) Once broken-in they fit very well

3) Vibram sole offers great grip

4) Good ankle support

Minuses:

1) Liner seam that runs up back of heel.

2) Break in period

3) Black color, kinda look like army combat boots

Overall: Hmmm, check the heel seam inside the boot before you buy. Having only gone on day trips to date, I am fearful of blisters on longer trips even though they are well broken in now. I'll try to repost my impressions of these boots after a couple of week long backpacks.
