Scarpa Dru

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Dru has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

If you are thinking of buying this boot for anything more than grade 3 ice don't. The reversed 3.4mm leather gives great upper support and reasonable warmth however, the B2 sole just doesn't have the stiffness. Where this boot really excels is in long distance but low technical terrain--ideal for all those alpine summer PD routes and great for glacier travel.

This boot has enough flex to ensure that comfort is great. My main concern with this boot was the price and I notice that it appears to have been replaced by the Matterhorn - a more highly featured boot. If stiffness is what you like then I would say skip the Dru and go straight to either the Salomon Mountain Guide (awesome performer) or the La Sportiva Nepal Extrem.
