Scarpa Moraine GTX

rated 4 of 5 stars
photo: Scarpa Moraine GTX trail shoe

Comfortable, very durable, well made.

Pros

  • Incredibly durable
  • Waterproof (so far)
  • Good support
  • Excellent traction on most wet surfaces
  • Uncommonly well constructed
  • Lightweight, given how sturdy they are

Cons

  • Toe box is good, but could be a few millimeters wider
  • Original insoles ok, but not great.

I’m a FedEx Express driver and walk a lot of miles. I mainly wear hiking shoes, since hiking is basically what I do. These are lightweight, nicely supportive, and keep my feet dry.

The Vibram soles are among the most durable I’ve ever used. After more than a year of wearing these four to six days a week, the soles remain in very decent, usable condition. No tears or rips. No split seams. Great laces. Some of the lugs have worn down, and each heel developed nickel-size spots where the rubber totally wore down. I patched these easily with Shoe Goo.

They’re still comfortable, though less than when they were new. I think the midsole layers get compressed and lose their cushioning naturally. All in all, I’m extremely impressed by and happy with these shoes.

Background

Over the years I’ve worn many different hiking boots and shoes.
