Sierra Designs Lookout 3.0

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Lookout 3.0 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best 3-4 season convertible tents for 2024.

I spent forever trying to decide which new tent to buy and settled on this one. My expectations may have been a little too high, so I was slightly disappointed. Set-up is a little tricky because of the third pole over the window (pulls very tight) and it's especially rough in the dark. It's freestanding, but much easier to set-up if you stake it down first. I was excited about the window built into the fly, and still am! Great for star gazing. This tent will fit 3 people, though it might be a little snug; however, it fits 2 people and a big dog with room to spare. Double doors are handy and there is ample vestibule space for gear. I was disappointed to wake up in the morning with a great deal of outer condensation, when my kelty zen, right next to it, had none. I've had this for only about 6 months, so maybe it will grow on me... test out the set-up in store before you buy.

A fantastic tent, I have had it for a number of years now and it is always preformed fantastically. The roof window is very nice, you can stand up and pull your pants on! Is perfect size and weight for three people backpacking. Or if you're into a little more luxury it can be a very roomy two person. It's very easy to set up. In the dark I can get it up in two minutes flat, but I have had lots of practice.
